tell me to stop sweating the small stuff...

i ordered a ticor sink and just saw that there's one that i like a little better (mine is 9" deep vs. 10" deep and about a 1/2" narrower and has a center drain vs. offset). but i don't want to pay for return shipping & a restocking fee, so i'm keeping the one i got. i tend to obsess over these little details and it's making me nuts. can anyone set me more at ease? i'm nearing the end of my house build and it's detail time.

I think 9" is better, less back strain. 1/2 inch irrelevant. I'd prefer an offset drain but I might have to settle for a center rear drain as I don't want to pay $6-900 extra for an offset drain. It gets crazy when we obsess over center v offset v many hundreds of dollars. Is it going to change much in the kitchen? No, perhaps a minor annoyance once in a while.

There will be compromises- perhaps a noisy appliance or something less perfect than another-but I am trying to get my head on straight- Is it really worth hundreds or thousands when the whole kitchen will be so much improved. Yeah, absolutely, it's small stuff. In the big picture, it is small.

All I have to say is "misery loves company" I do the same thing and refer to it as analysis paralysis and what I wind up doing is finding something I like, and then search endlessly for something I "might" like better. Then I over think it and after way too much time - I go for what I really liked in the first place. This remodel is really making it tough for me to commit to a decision - probably because it is quite an investment and I know this is most likely the last kitchen I will ever design. I over think everything and second guess myself to death. Anyone out there that has the same problem? I hope it is not some new disorder that is yet to be diagnosed!

If you are like many of us that have speed ovens, you may find that you will use the speed oven more than your larger oven, as Fori suggests. Like you there are only 2 of us, so when I do baked potatoes it is usually just two, does it not seem like a waste to preheat a large oven and then cook just 2 taters in it for 45-60 mins (Including preheat)???, when the taters are done in 14 mins, (Including preheat) in the speed oven. Likewise for meatloaves, stuffed bell peppers, You name it, we just don't find a lot that does not fit in our Elux speed oven. Reheating poultry , fish, and fries comes out much better than if you tried to nuke them, or even reheat them in a regular oven---I hear tell that convection ovens reheat these items pretty well, but I have no personal experience with same, alto since the Speed oven can be used just as a convection oven, I suppose I could try it, but as mentioned I like the way they come out speed cooked. With the exception of our induction cooktop, our speed oven is our most used cooking appliance. If Hubby is concerned about the price, you have 2 options! Option # 1. Put left hand around his neck, put right hand around the other side of his neck and slowly join your hands. Option # 2. Look at the Elux Icon Speed oven, more than likely you can save quite a bit of money on it compared to the Miele, alto folks do like their Miele Speed Ovens but I've had the Elux for more than 5 years now and except for a screw coming loose on the handle, it has been trouble free. There's menopause, and there's perimenopause, which is the period prior to menopause. For some women, perimenopause can last for years, for others, it's barely noticed. My hot flashes have been just occasional for about 10 years, and they are mild, and don't cause sweating, just make me feel hot and kick off the covers. Some women, as you describe, have actual sweats. Hormone levels begin to fluctuate prior to actual menopause, and in some of us can cause a wide varieties of symptoms ranging from physical to mental to emotional in nature. Since yours seem to be directly related to your periods, I would assume they are from perimenopausal changes, but if you are concerned, tell your gyn about them for some professional and expert input. I agree with all the comments in the posts. I look at it this way....I TRUST my children to make good judgements about people and places. I believe strongly in consequences of behaviour. So I try to remember that when arguments are going on. For instance, my DS has dreadlocks in his hair, this has gone on for a year. In my mind they look messy and I have noticed that people do judge him by the way he looks and treat him accordingly. He also happens to go to a school where they have a hair policy and for the life of me I cannot understand why they have let him go through the whole year, without saying something about his hair !! I thought this would solve my dilemma of wanting him to have a neat haircut. Although I do not like his hair, I fully support his right to have his hair the way he wants it, his right to be an individual, he loves the way his hair is, and if he is happy then I am happy. We have had a lot of discusions about CONSEQUENCES of the school asking him to cut his hair. I asked him many questions about what he would do, and he understands (rather crankily) that he must conform, if they ask him to. I think this has been an important lesson for me and him. This led to many more discussions on conformity and when this is acceptable, and where. With my DD (19), I have had dramas over messy bedroom, but now I don't care, its not important. Its important to remember they are lovely people and that we can trust them to do the right thing. Encouragement is beter than critisism, in my mind. Make "I" statements is a good policy to work on. "I was concerned when you didnt phone me like you said you would ", not "You are so naughty for not phoning me, you are grounded for a week, and you can think about it " I also read any statement starting with "Don't" is negative and will lead to negative feelings, and probably moving into an agrument. Florantha, thank you for your suggestion to measure. I learned two things. First, the first faucet leans over perfectly over the drain area. Second, I had the part number and the dimension of this faucet wrong. It turns out that it is TARA ULTRA 33 816 875. This faucet has 9 1/2'' spout projection, 15 1/2'' total height, and 9 1/2'' height to aerator/spout outlet. In other words, it has 1.5in more spout projection and 3/4in more taller than the second one. Thank you

Kellykath- you have totally described me. (but you left out the part that sometimes when I finally after the whole mental workout and time spent searching, the one I liked in the first place and finally decide to go with.... is no longer available.)
I am trying very hard to simplify the choice process. I do know that I have had some success lately with that- I limit my initial choices (assuming they are all good choices) and then just decide that I will be done choosing.
It's helped that we have dragged our feet for so long with bathroom remodeling and then finally connected with a great contractor and needed to have the work done.......(so there is a time limit factor of how long I can procrastinate or surf the web.)

What has helped me a lot is along the lines of what westsider said- it will be a vastly improved space so one detail is not really going to impact it greatly.

I know, I know, easy to say- but really it's true.

Can I join this club? My my recent obsession: floor registers...dark on the hardwood and satin nickel on the tile or all the same, or just satin in the baths and dark on the kitchen tile so it matches the orb hardware...but wait I have stainless appliances will the orb harware I ordered work...yeah, I meet the criteria for this club-lol!

I've found that in the end, it just doesn't matter. If I had bought a finished house I'd be happy with any of my options. (I repeat that 3x daily)

And I thought it was just me. . . if my husband knew how much time I wasted analyzing his stuff he would shooot me. I just might beat him to it before I'm through, lol! I love hearing about others who have this analysis paralysis "disorder".

The half inch width on a full size sink doesn't matter and 9 inches depth is good. I love my 10, but a lot of folks swear by their 9s and have a little more room under the sink. My prep sink is 9 and I'm happy with it too.

Now, about the drain, what size is your sink -- width and single or double bowl? Once you get past a certain width, nearly all the drains are center (if it is center rear, even better). I kept looking for an offset drain and DH didn't like the Shaw's original. After seeing all the center drains, I realized that the larger sinks have room for plates, pots or pans on both sides of the drain and that seems to be why they center it. I've been working with mine for over 3 years now and think I'd even prefer the center rear over the offset. My plumbing all stays to the back of the cabinet and I have a disposal with 2 DW connections plus recycling, trash, cleaning supplies, a NeverMT and an instant hot tank in that cabinet. There's more than one way to do things.

Why do you think it's wrong? Because some of us have something different? Different is not wrong. Unless you have a particular reason why it is something you won't be happy with, move on. If you have an identifiable reason why this drain or any other things will drive you crazy with regret day after day, then fix it. You can return, sell or donate the sink you don't want, but it will be easier and worth more before you install it under a slab of counter and sticky stuff.

Hey, at least you're only sweating the small stuff! I'm sweating it all. Big. Small. Medium.

Sometimes I think the internet is fabulous because you can learn about so much stuff. Then again, it's awful because you can learn about so much stuff.

Oh, how I can relate. I was not prepared for all of the small stuff that we agonized over for so many hours. Maybe that's part of the distraction to not be in the moment of the chaos of construction! I'm sooo guilty of this.... just this week. Can't wait until it's done and I'm putting things away. You're not alone!
