Wow...is there a finished kitchen thread for momof3kids_pa's kitchen somewhere? I'd like to see more details...it's fantastic (especially since I'm doing Ikea, and feeling a little envious!)

Ok, Nancy, #1, the beadboard is Home Depot pre-primed beadboard paneling, nailed on with a nail gun, then there is a crown type moulding on the top...

The bottom is also just a regular straight moulding, I'm sorry I don't remember what type it is, but it's Home Depot standard stuff, and that was just nail gunned on. We painted it with cabinet matched high gloss paint.

On the island cabinet back and the breakfast bar area, again it's just nailed on (actually I think we put some Liquid Nails construction adhesive on there too) I will take more detailed pictures of the edges if you want -- but you have to give me til Wednesday. It's dd 8th birthday party tomorrow and I've got eleven 8 year olds coming here, and they're calling for rain so I'm flipping out thinking of plan B!!!

#2, The cover panel: Ikea has the matching cover panels, we used an 88 x 24 size that we ripped in half (those hutch cabs are 12" deep), really quartered it, so it sat on the butcherblock.

#3 our ceilings are 7'10", the upper cabs are 39 1/8 tall. The space on the hutch (not including the light strip piece) is 16.25"; the coffee/toaster part in the kitchen is 17.5" The "deco strip" trim hangs down 2 3/8"

#4 my recycling cabinet. Absolutely, one of my favorite things in my kitchen. It is so remarkably useful. That was a modification. It is a 24" base cabinet with two 15" doors mounted horizontally and attached to a standard 24" drawer. They sell those plastic bins at Ikea (Samla 12 gallon) They lift out perfectly with the full extention drawers. Paper in the top, commingle in the bottom. I LOVE THEM!!!!!!!!

Megsy, I saw your post about the z-brick. I love my brick. I love it's rough, old, worn look. I would definately recommend doing the entire wall though -- I think brick looks funny when it's just between uppers and lowers, it just doesn't look authentic. What's your cabinet, countertop, floor color/style plan?

I'll be happy to provide some more detail, but after I get this party done with -- I am also underway with my second Ikea diy kitchen at a lake house we bought 2 weeks ago (which I can't wait to show you all this amazing transformation!), but AHHHH I'm totally at the point where I only want to talk and post about kitchens, I never want to DIY another again at this point! Two within 6 months of each other pushed me over the edge!

momof3, I am leaning to the side of needing to do a whole wall with the brick because of what you mentioned. I showed DH the pics of your kitchen last night and he ran to Home Depot to pick up some beaded board samples.

We're not doing a whole kitchen remodel, just a redecorating, really. The kitchen is round for the most part; opening up to the living area and breakfast nook. The walls will be BM HC-28 (75% pigment) and the cabinets BM HC-109. Trim will be BM OC-100, which is really only a door.

I'm about 90% positive we're going to do the beaded board for the backsplash but I can't figure out what to paint it. Do I match it to the cabinets and paint it green or paint it the offwhite trim color?

Decisions, decisions.

Countertops will be the same as yours actually. Numerar Oak from Ikea. They're in the garage right now getting sealed.

Floor is a cold-ish grey-ish ceramic tile and it's staying. This isn't our forever house so we're just doing what we can to make it work. I'll put some rugs in the kitchen to cover it up.

Party's over. Weather held out, all went well. Oh, and I love my kitchen. Every time I have a party, it just makes me love it more.

Nice colors, megsy. Tough call whether to match the cabs or the wall or the trim. I'd say it looks a bit more classic/vintage to match the cabinets. I personally never liked the whole backsplash idea. I think it's an odd area to draw attention to. What so special about that space between the upper and lower cabs, so me personally I just like it to blend so it visually goes away.

So are you doing the brick??!

Really glad I asked about the recycling drawers, I can see myself at Ikea showing the kitchen staff your picture and they wouldn't know what it was! And thanks for the other answers about the beadboard, the space between the cabinets and the cover panel, also.

I would like to see more deails on the edges when you have recovered :).

Also- did you use the Benjamin Moore simply white gloss to match the Lidingo?

I absolutely LOVE your kitchen! What an amazing transformation. And all the nifty things you've done with the interiors, all the little details. It's fabulous.

Your original post has fallen off the boards, so you should definitely post your finished kitchen over on the Gallery side and get it in the FKB. To get in the FKB, you just need to post on the gallery side, fill out the form on the FKB site and email Starpooh to let her know.

I also wanted to ask you - how did you do the front cabinet cutout around your apron-front sink? Did you use a cover panel? How did you measure it or did you use a template?

scrappy, on the island there is an ikea cover panel on each end, then DH very carefully cut the beadboard to exactly run flush with the edge.

However, on the pennisula he was not as careful and the edge was not clean so we put corner molding on to cover it.

All my trim and beadboard was done with color matched paint (except the pennisula back... we still haven't gotten to painting that yet, it's still primer!!) I brought in a small drawer front to Sherwin Williams and they color matched it in a gloss finish.

jenswren, the cut out around the apron sink was a piece of mdf. I pretty much did it just by measuring. the sink was in place already, I measured the overall width the piece should be, then measured how much i needed to fill the space. I cut it with a jigsaw, then we routered the edge to mimic our Lidi cabinets. And again, painted it with the cabinet matched gloss paint.

What wood insert did you use for your flat baking pans? Is it a paper divider?

What is the container that you have in your 12 inch base pullout? What do you put in it?

I get so many ideas from your pictures!

One more- what did you use for those cute feet on your island? Are the ikea legs hidden behind them?

hi nancy. the 12" pullout is my regular trash. i wanted/needed a large trash can (family of 5). no off the shelf ones that would fit the space were big enough so i made my own out of 1/4 in luan and covered it with old wallpaper.

the vertical tray thing was from my previous 50s built, custom built kitchen. i just carefully removed it from the old cab and screwed it into our new one. doesnt look all that coordinated but it was my #1 must have in the new kitchen.

and the feet are standard wood feet from home depot, painted with the color matched. because we plan to have electrical run through the island (electrician ran the wires and they are ready to go in the basement) and because the marble is so heavy, we built a wood box out of 2x4 and faced it with leftover plank flooring. the box sits in about 7"???? (not at home so i cant measure). the feet are essentially just decorative
