I need help on how to get cat urine odor out of concrete?
Comments (43)The reason Nature's Miracle says not to use any other method of cleaning is because they know you will use another method before buying it. Now they have an excuse as to why their product doesn't work. Nature's miracle is junk. My wife and I are current replacing flooring in our house. We adopted a 3 year old cat that was left behind after the owner moved. We found out why she was left behind. She pisses and poops everywhere. She had some kind of pancreatic issue and was on steroids her whole life. She died at the young age of 12. We loved her so we endured the daily treasures left behind. I would destroy another house full of flooring for that cat. It's a small price to pay for that unconditional love. This is Pita (acronym for pain in the arse)...See MoreHoned quartzite question
Comments (12)Tl1969, I would read up on quartzite some more in the thread that Halfway posted. If it is really quartzite then there will be no etching. If it is not quartzite, then honed would be better, but it's important for you to learn what you are getting. The referenced thread has instructions for how to tell the difference. Do not leave it to the sales people or fabricators to tell you the difference. Honing a stone does not rob the stone of a protective layer, aside from a sealer that may have been applied. As for natural beauty, that is in the eye of the beholder. I do know that it's a major pain for a fabricator to change the finish on a slab of stone, so they may be reluctant to go that route. Good luck!...See MoreStone experts: What's up with quartzite?
Comments (54)We have Quartzite Bianca and had our fabricator test it (ketchup/lime juice/oil) prior to installation and no stains or etches. Unfortunately, after installation, turns out it etches with water. The issue is the resin applied at the quarry (all stone over the past decade has resin applied, mostly for color enhancement) is reacting to acids. You don't think of water being an acid, but it can be depending on the pH. Technically, what etches is a reaction between calcite in the stone (e.g., marble, limestone, travertine) and an acid. Since quartzite does not contain calcite.. etching is caused by the reaction between the resin and the acid which explains why two people with the same stone experience different things re: etching. Depends on the quarry and resin used. I've removed the etching with baking soda, which also means water is not etching the stone, but the surface.. Your fabricator can also rebuff the stone to get the etches off. Won't cure the long-term problem, but can get rid of what etching you currently have. As to sealers.. once I read about people with this stone having oil stains, I researched sealers. I was told silicone-based sealers do a great job repelling water, but attract oil based stains, so I switched to a product by Stone Products (www.superiorstone.com) which is a flouropolymer--a smaller molecule than silicone which means it fills the voids better and does not attract oil stains....See MoreAre there any pics out there of Luce di Luna in a classic kitchen
Comments (5)I've got it but unfortunately we are currently at a hotel as they refinish our kitchen floors. I can post a picture on Sunday but for now I will describe my kitchen. I have a U shaped kitchen with an island. Beyond the U shape I also have a desk area and around the corner a butler pantry. My floors are natural oak. My cabs are white shaker inset and my perimeter countertops are soapstone (just saying soapstone seems like such an understatement - they are dark charcoal with a single big jagged white streak through them). My White Moon (Luce di Luna) quartzite is on my island. It is fabulous and a perfect complement to my soapstone. My quartzite might even look more modern than Sochi's because it is almost completely linear with very few squiggles. There were a few doubters in my house about the quartzite with the soapstone but the instant they saw it their mouths dropped open and they professed their immediate love for it! (even teenagers who are never wrong). I had never heard of quartzite but was at a granite yard last January and saw the white moon and knew it was going in my kitchen some where. I came home and searched in Gardenweb and saw Sochi's and that confirmed it for me. I'm with Sochi - go for it!!...See Moresochi
