Countertops - Honing White Grante / Quartzite & Care of Pietra
Comments (5)Our choices are very similar to yours. We are doing a polished white quarzite (Namibia Sky) which looks like marble, on our island. We were going to use Pietra Cardosa on our perimeter counters but, have friends they have quite a few dings and stains on theirs. We switched to honed Balsaltina which is a solid grey stone (we love the look with our quartzite). Both of our final choices did very well when I tested everything under the sun (and leaving on overnight). In Italy honed Basaltina and polished Marble are commonly paired together. They will be installed next week, so I will try to post pictures....See MoreMadre Perla-To Quartzite or NOT to Quartzite-That is the question...
Comments (8)Madre Perla owner here, though mine is brushed I tested a polished piece originally, nothing stained it not even tumeric. My slab does not etch. It has survived a lemondrop party and multiple instances of canning tomatoes. It's been 3-4 years its beauty, particularly the large uninterrupted island slab, still stops people in their tracks. They carress it, as I do, and say What is this???...See MoreQuartzite Taj Mahal: Hone or Leather?
Comments (19)Thank you all so much for posting your comments here, reading all your comments finally helped me make a decision! We decided to go for leathered Taj for our kitchen renovation. Bacskplash, countertops, island…We have dark, honed marble now and ceaserstone and the marble etched and stained horribly. We were thinking of dolomitic stone ( similar to marble, not as stain resistant as quartzite) but after reading comments here, I decided for leathered TM. I do not want to worry, we cook a lot and are not super careful….Thank you. I will Post photos when ready, but here is the slab for now. It is polished, the stone place gets it honed or leathered. I like the look and feel of leathered stone....See MoreHoned Quartzite - Sealing
Comments (4)Are you sure that's quartzite? It doesn't quite look like it - although a photo isn't the best way to ID a rock. I'd recommend a scratch test and an acid test to confirm. https://usenaturalstone.org/how-to-be-your-own-stone-sleuth/...See Morelocaleater
