Border or no border with a ceramic subway tile back splash?
Comments (33)If you are selling I think a border has a lot more chance of feedback than no border. Meaning, if the bs was just subway, then there probably won't be comments like "I wish there was a border" because they don't know what they are missing, but if there is a border and potential buyers might say " I don't like the border". Buyers are quite picky and insane these days. Been there, done that. If you think you aren't selling, then by all means do what you like. Life is too short to just be designing your home for a potential possibility you might sell it. No matter what, it will look clean, current, and fresh. And those are always good....See Moreceramic crackle tile - durable for kitchen backsplash??
Comments (9)"Crackle" refers to an accelerated process of crazing of the glaze. If you're asking whether the tile is as durable (stain resistant) as un-crazed tile, of course it's not, but then backsplash tile doesn't have to be incredibly durable, really. Some crackle tiles have to be sealed before they are installed, but you will have to read the installation specs to know whether your tile will need this extra step. Most crackle tiles, tile and grout, should be sealed annually to remain stain free. Encore Ceramics produces a very popular, and much GW-beloved crackle tile that, if memory serves, is not outrageously priced. Good luck!...See MoreCrackle tile for backsplash durability?
Comments (10)We just put in the Sonoma crackle a couple of months ago. We sealed before we tiled, sealed cut edges as we went along, and sealed everything after it was grouted as per instructions. We put a large plastic drape over the island and used that as a work surface. I've been canning tomatoes recently, which is a bit of a mess. I tend not to notice incidental tomato splashes on the tile until "later" and have not had any problem at all with wiping them off. We may someday seal it again, but I'm not worried about it. Sonoma Creamy Crackle: 3" x 9" approx. $16/sf (it comes listed as $3.28 per piece) We live just a few miles from Sonoma County which is where I presume they make it. Stellar Stone Blue Crackle 2" x 4": $1.51 per piece, so approx $27/sf. (this is special order)...See MoreCrackle subway tile for backsplash?
Comments (8)I have a lighter crackle tile behind the range (walker zanger gramercy park pipe smoke) along with white grout (flexcolor) and wiped spaghetti sauce off it just the other day. No scrubbing, just wiped it off. This picture was just after install - so no outlet covers on yet but you can see it's not real dark....See Moreellendi
