I am so sorry about the flood and especially about your dog. It is hard to part with a good friend.

Some people would not mind an off-center faucet, but I knew it would bother me because of the center stile in my window. Still, I really wanted a 1 3/4 bowl sink, so I decided to compromise a little bit on the faucet style. Instead of getting one that projects above the windowsill, where it will call attention to the fact that it is off-center, I am getting a lower-profile one that will come up only as high as the windowsill. I think that will help.

I love the look of a single bowl and think it will look great with your cabinets, but I suppose it depends on how you use your sink. I ended up choosing a 1 3/4 bowl for myself, because my kids(and DH) tend to just pile things in the sink and I figured even if I entered the kitchen w/ a sink full of dishes I'd still be able to wash an apple or whatever in the other side. BTW my cousin's MIL just had KM maple shaker style cabinets in Canvas installed and they're beautiful.

I love the look of a single bowl, but I just couldn't give up my 1 3/4 sink. Mine does not line up with my window post, but it doesn't really bother me too much. I like to be able to wash on one side and drain on the other.

So sorry about the flood. My house had 7 ft. of water after Katrina so I know how you feel. My heart goes out to everyone who is experiencing terrible floods right now.

Cinda, I am so sorry about your dog and about the flood - not sure in which order. I remember how heartbroken I was when my first cat died - and how unable to function. The idea that you've had to deal with a flood *and* your kitchen renovation at the same time...

I never considered getting anything but a single bowl sink, so I might not be the best person to advise, but I will say that our 30" sink is terrific for all our washing needs.

Wow, what a horrible week. I'm so sorry about your dog, and I can't imagine dealing with flooding issues in the middle of a remodeling project.

I love my single bowl sink. It has a ledge for a grate so I can wash dishes on one side and still drip dry them on the other side, and remove the grate if I need to soak something large. I would get what you love and not worry about the faucet lining up.

I just wanted to extend my sympathies about the dog. In January we had to say goodbye to our beloved pug and it was heartbreaking to have to hold her and know what was happening. I know how hard that can be! All my GCs subs had become buddies with her so I had to email him to tell them all that I couldn't talk about it at first, but the plumber didn't get word and said "where's my buddy" and I just cried!

I'm so sorry about your dog. 14 years is amazing for a Golden. You must have taken wonderful care of her. You are one strong lady to have weathered that plus a flood.

You didn't indicate which sink you prefer. Will it bother YOU to have a faucet that doesn't line up with the center post in your window? People here have done all sorts of inventive stuff to get the sink they want, including offset faucets.

Perhaps a picture might help. Our cabinets are shaker and we have a 1 3/4. For functional reasons, neither are sink nor our faucet are aligned to the window post:

Our fabricators wanted the sinks to be on site when they templated and they took the sinks to the shop so they could make sure everything worked right when they made the cutouts.

Also, if you decide you want to get the single bowl, check that there will be enough room for the faucet behind it. If you have a typical 24" deep cabinet (25.5" deep counter top if you have a 1.5" overhang), a lot of sinks are around 20" back to front (including the lip). You need about 4" of granite in front of the sink (with about 1" of that overlapping the lip of the sink). That doesn't leave much room for the faucet centered behind a single bowl. Some people bump out the sink cabinet to make more room or have a window that lets the counter stick out behind the cabinets a bit. The 1 3/4 sinks typically have the small bowl less deep (back to front) so that there is extra room for the faucet there.

Cloudswift, thanks for the picture...your faucet is also 1 of 2 we are considering...and I think you just helped me make up my mind.

We will most likely go with the 1 3/4 bowl and the Ladylux... since we didn't pull the sink base AND we had the left sink base door fitted with some storage racks to hold stuff.... so we will be limited on the depth of the sink or lose the racks.

I'm also sorry about the loss of your dog and the flood.

Our look is similiar to Cloud Swift's. We have the Ladylux Plus faucet and a single bowl sink. Our window isn't as wide. Because of tight space (dishwasher needs), we couldn't center the sink under the window. I don't even notice that the faucet is off center. You can always position the faucet (turn it) to be towards the center for a more balanced feel.

I'd say: go for the sink and faucet you most desire as first priority.

I am sorry to hear you were in the flooding. It came up so quickly, there is nothing you could have done. We live a bit north of Indy (not in a flooded area). High winds, some trees down and loss of power were over quickly. I hope the storms are over!

I am so sorry to hear about the flooding, dog, everything! How you can manage to sound upbeat and "move on" is beyond me. So many folks have just been devastated, it's unbelievable.

Onto your question. I have a corner sink under two windows in my new (almost done) kitchen, and wondered about a similar issue, that the faucet would look centered. We have the same size sink. For what it is worth, I am going with a single bowl sink to keep things looking aligned. I figure I can just place a bowl in there when I need to have separate areas, and take advantage of the huge amount of the single bowl when I need it. The other problem with the 1 @ 3/4 bowls is that you can't always fit your really large pans in them. A single sink also looks elegant with shaker cabinetry, which I also have.

I ended up starting a whole new thread about the sink. It has been sort of messed up fron the start with the big box writing in the contract we would get a Blanco..then later realizing it was a "mmistake" and they don't even sell Blanco...

We found out they are allowing us about $428 or something like that for our sink. If we use the fabricator's brand (Elcipse) in an 18 g...we aren't out any more money. We can upgrade to the 16 g 1 3/4 bowl for $69, or get the single bowl Artisan for $69, also a 16 g. The Artisan doesn't have a rear drain, but I'm to the point I can live with it anyhow.

Since we just lost so much in the flood I need to cut back now. I'm telling myself we really have come a long way from our original kitchen...we have pretty new cabinets and our granite is coming. It could be a heck of a lot worse. Some of our neighbors have most of the contents of their homes on the front lawn in heaps. We've been declared a "disaster" zone. I'm going to get one of these sinks...by Wednesday. That's my goal! And a faucet. And 2 new cars. My mind is going 'round and 'round...sink, faucet, car, car. :) I'm a hospice nurse and on-call tonight, so I just may forget the whole thing tonight and "think about that tomorrow."
