I like the second because it really ties in the blue of the kitchen into the space. What color will you have the table restained?

I like option 1, in the same stain as the table and blue upholstery, perhaps a pretty pattern with white. It's a nice chair and will compliment the beautiful antique table really well. The other two IMHO would compete with the table too much.

option 3 is lovely and more practical.

I like option 3. On a separate note, I had that table's twin for years and loved it. We only Craigslisted it 2 yrs ago, because we inherited DH's great aunt's DR suite. The one caveat I have with your plan is that the legs will pose a bit of a logistical problem when trying to get in and out of the couch, because they are so beefy and just off the edge of the table. Looking forward to seeing what you choose.

How much bigger will the table get?

I like 1and 3..... But seat height and arm height need to be big considerations. Which sits you at the most comfortable position for eating as well as lounging around visiting? (Unless you aren't going to eat there...)

1 and 3-Just an FYI, when you sit back in them and have like a tank top on or part of your back exposed, they leave a pattern in your skin.
Buy one of each, set them at the table once it is stained, sit in them and decide!LOL

palimpsest it has two leaves. I will put in either one or two depending on the size of the chairs.

I'm going to throw off your ratings, but I'd go with 2. It pulls in the blue from your kitchen, and that chair looks so much more confortable and cozy.

Though, maybe I'm biased as I have two similar red chairs and I LOVE them!

I'm sure you know this but I'm gonna remind you that the seat height and firmness of a dining chair is different from a living room chair.

#2 does not look high enough in the seat, and the back may be canted more like lounge seating.

A hard dining chair is usually about 17-1/2 -18 at the seat.
An upholstered one may be closer to 19 if it has firm upholstery. My sofa is about 17, but the way that you sink into it means the table would feel like it is at chin level.
So an inch +/- some may not Seem like much but a lot has to do with how hard the deck is on the chair and the firmness of the cushion.

Banquettes are generally higher, stiffer and with a shallower seat front to back than a conventional sofa for this reason, and the same goes for fully upholstered chairs. They have to be much stiffer and upright than a similar living room chair to keep you at a comfortable eating position.

Federal sofas are pretty shallow but you may have to get a firmer cushion...you won't really know unless you sit there for a couple meals whether it is right or not.

There was a nearby restaurant that had chairs that were the slightest bit too low, and banquettes that were a bit too soft, and I noticed that people would sometimes asked to be moved. They were probably less than an inch too short--I think I measured once when I had a tape with me 8c/ -- but eventually they changed the chairs.

I agree #2 looks the coziest. My biggest concern w/ that one is the issue that the last two posts have raised- I'm not sure that one will be comfortable.

The couch we have at the table now and we eat there and it is comfortable. The table is a smidge too high but it has wheels on it that we are removing so they will not be there any more and the height will be perfect.

I want to try to get the side chairs at the same height since this table works w/ the couch.

Definitely number 3! I'd add a pretty upholstered pillow as an accent as well as back support. You could get a fabric that pulls in the lovely blue from your kitchen as well as the cream from the couch.

You can have the couch cushion inserts changed out for something firmer and then use more accent pillows for back support.

Love those chair choices. They're all lovely.

Number 2 for sure! I don't like the wicker-y back stuff on 1 and 3. It doesn't fit your decor at all. Also, the legs on 2 go much better with the table. The legs on 1 and 3 look like from a different era. Plus, you say you want it to be a comfortable seating area, and are keeping the couch. Chair no. 2 goes better with the couch and keeps the whole comfy upholstered feeling going. Plus the color of chair no. 2 is beautiful!
