I had a client request this recently but she decided against it when we mocked it up and she realized the view when she was working at the counter was of her tummy. She said she thought it might be a great new diet aid though.

Annab - I am sorry to say this, but my old kitchen's mirrored backsplash was the first thing I couldn't wait to rip out. I hope I haven't offended you, but the purpose of this forum is to share our experiences, and perhaps help people in their kitchen decisions. I strongly disliked the mirrored backsplash because (A) it only stayed clean-looking for about 1 minute. It's called a "backsplash" because, well, things splash on it, and the mirror shows, and reflects, every drop of spatter, grease, even water drops. (B) As Khat mentioned, and I will emphasize, the backsplash just became a reflection of everyone's torsoes. So every time you or family members walked around the kitchen, you saw torsoes. And because the torsoes weren't balanced by seeing the rest of the body, any, ahem, imperfection, was magnified. For small children, you just saw floating heads. (3) No offense, but my old kitchen was circa 1991 - it was my understanding that mirrored backsplashes were a late '80's-early '90's look. I know trends come and go and we shouldn't be a slave to them, but still I need to mention that the look can be considered by some to be dated.

As you can tell, I didn't like my old mirrored backsplash, to such a degree that I felt compelled to tell you why. Sorry.

I agree with what was said above about what the mirrors will be mirroring. I love mirrors, glass, etc., but in looking at the cliffandjoann picture posted, it made the kitchen look too busy for my taste as it was just reflecting appliances, etc. Is a textured stainless steel backsplash a consideration? Thank you khat, akchicago and californiadreamer for posting, the "no, don't do it" advice is extremely valuable. I would hate to do it and then discover all the negatives you guys have listed here. The "floating heads" one is especially funny :)

On the other hand, if there were a way to do it just over the sink where the upper cabinets are shorter....

i was going to do that in the early 90's and I have to agree with all the others...you just see your chest...very weird. i also bought mirrored place mats and didn't realize that everything seemed upside down. I love mirrors, but sometimes they just don't work in certain applications.

We have mirrored backsplashes in our motorhome and I hate them. No matter what, they are always getting dirty. Hand prints, splatters, water spots. I would never want them in my home.

Well now that convinced me-Ooh ooh if it will help me lose weight I think I might have decided on a backsplash!! Mirror people here I come. :)
Seriously though, I think the one I linked to above had plenty of other things reflected so it did seem quite attractive.
