Help with placement of soap and air vent

I have 24 inch deep cabinet with an undermount double sink. Larger bowl on the left, smaller on the right. Overall dimensions of the sink are 31-7/8" W x 20-5/8" D. The state I live in, (CA), still requires an air vent for the dishwasher, hence I need one. I am planning on a Kohler Vinnata faucet placed in the middle of the two bowls. It comes real close to the wall behind, but I can live with that. I would like a soap dispenser along with the air vent. My granite guy says there is not enough room on the larger bowl side to place the soap, too close between the lip of the sink and the wall. The sink is as far forward as it can be. I initially wanted the soap on the left and the air vent on the right to balance it all out. Now I would need both the soap dispenser and air vent both on the right (smaller bowl)side. Does anyone have the same problem and how does it look? My granite guy suggests the soap 8 inches from the faucet and the air vent 4 inches from the soap. Any suggestions and pictures would be helpful.

I think these sinks are designed to have all the "stuff" on the smaller side so that the big side can go so far back. You aren't supposed to get anything back there!

I have a similar sink in my current kitchen (Okay, it's pink Corian so not really similar, but the same big bowl/small bowl deal). All my doodads are behind the small sink, starting in the middle with the faucet, then drain popup button, then soap dispenser, then airgap at the end. They're all pretty close together, 4" centers I think. It works quite well because my disposal is on the big side and I wash dishes (and dispense soap into) the small side. I'll do something similar when I remodel.

I think it looks fine. Well, I mean it would look fine if all the things matched, and if the sink weren't pink.

You should think about where you want the soap (and pretend the air gap isn't even there). Will it be better in the corner of the sink or the middle?

Do what many people in CA do - put the air gap in for the inspection and then later replace it with the soap dispenser. As long as you have a high loop in the DW drain hose, you don't really need the air gap. They also do make a combination air gap/soap dispenser if you don't want to cheat.

Update: Builder did not arrange a meeting with the HVAC super. However they did pass on our concerns, and some changes were made today. Two smaller vents were installed in the living room several feet away on either side of the light fixture instead of the one large central one. So we are happy with that. The family room is now also two smaller vents, but they are much closer still to the center of the room and will right right above where each couch will be in that room. This room is 18 x 22, with a sliding glass door behind where the person taking the picture is standing. There is also a 12 ft. wide opening to the kitchen/ breakfast nook behind and to the right of the photographer. The unit is a Lennox 14HPX-048-230-18. Will be engineered with air handler to be a 15 SEER. I asked about the air handler model and I am still waiting to hear back. I know this system gets bad reviews but we just don't have the budget to do anything else right now, and builder, not being custom, won't let us shop around. I am still concerned about this family room. Should I request another change, moving each of the two air diffusers even further back towards each perimeter wall? Should there be a third one anywhere, or is the two enough?

Yup, as suero said - supply and return should not be on the same level. Your return will 'draw' from the supply so the natural rise/fall of heated or cooled air is not as significant as you might think.

Lexluthor, it's not a stupid question. I didn't know what one was until I encountered the term here--and then I had to have one (two, actually!). An airswitch is an alternative to a wall switch. It's the little button on the counter to the right of the faucet in my pic. In most cases here, it's to operate the garbage disposal, although it could be used for just about anything with an on/off switch. Most people who use them like not having the clutter of a wall switch on their backsplash, or in the case of a garbage disposal in an island, having an easily accessible place for the switch. I have them at both sinks and love them.

Solar tube to bring in natural light rather than a window? I don't think there is anywhere else to put the shower that size with that size bathroom. You could also try a clerestory window above the shower/linen closet.

I put the soap dispenser in the left corner of the large bowl of my double bowl sink...in the actual corner...at the angle where the two sides come together. If you do the same I think you will have plenty of room for the soap dispenser.

Here's a close up pic...

Even though your bowls aren't "D" shaped, you could put the SD a little lower than I put mine & it wouldn't be any "higher" than the top of the large bowl...put it in the corner but with it slightly lower so it's on the side, but not too far down.

My granite guy told me the same thing yesterday. I'm in CA and I decided I wanted the SD more than the air gap. I'm also adding the button for the garbage disposal. These will be placed on the right.

Fori, That sounds like what I'll have to do, without the drain popup. I can always switch the air gap with the soap afterwards ,if I remember to tell the plumber to leave enough hose.
Weissman, I've heard about the high loop method, I just want to keep things per code. I haven't heard about the combo air/soap. Did some research and they don't really impress me. I only came up with cheaper looking plastic onmes. Do you know of any nicer, better qaulity ones available?
Buehl, Your set-up is how I had envisioned mine, except the air gap in place of the air switch. I don't think I have enough room behind my sink or on the side. My sink cabinet is a box with 3/4" back and 3/4" sides. It is close, I should've had my cabinets made 25 deep instead of 24. I'll ask my granite guy again. Maybe he can cut through some of the overhang lip of the sink, then the SD may fit on the left.

No, I've only learned about them when people posted on this forum but I've never researched them. From what I understand, air gaps can get yucky and if it were me I'd swap it out - the high loop method is just as good - but I understand that you don't want to. Good luck.

Have your cabinets already been installed?

If not, would your design allow you to pull them forward from the wall a couple of inches? That would give you an extra couple of inches behind the sink...

Lowers are installed, even if they weren't, the corner pieces would not allow for more clearance. It would've needed to be designed that way.
