range hood, backsplash, and cabinet issue - need help with this

I'm planning on having a stainless and glass chimney range hood behind the stove and want to tile up the wall. My problem is how to make it work with the cabinets. They are going to be staggered height, with lower cabinets flanking each side of the range hood. Since I won't be able to tile all the way up to the ceiling, would it look okay to tile up as far as the top of the cabinets on either side, or should I stop short of that? If it was an all-stainless hood, I would just tile up to the bottom of the hood, but with the glass that won't work. I haven't been able to find any pictures of anything like this situation, and I can't picture what will work. Any ideas?
