Oh, i should add that the walls aren't yellow anymore, they are terracotta.

am I seeing a darker band of tile on the backsplash? I would probably go with a granite that is darker to enhance the strip.

Have you thought of another surface other than granite? I have granite and really don't think I would do it again. I have Santa Cecilia Light and find that its hard to see crumbs and other stains. I'd probably go with a quartz product.

My first reaction was to go dark as a contrast and to pick up the black in your appliances. I have Absolute Black and love it. Yes, it shows every crumb, but then I am really sure that my counters are clean. My cabinets, like yours are light and the contrast is lovely.

I agree with the peeps above.....You have a lot of neutral going on there with the cabinets, tiles, floors, walls...I think the darker granite would be a good contrast and break it up a bit.

Do you think that one on the right, the tan brown would be a good choice? OR maybe sapphire blue (not pictured) or is that TOO blue?

I kinda like the tan brown. It's dark and has the terra cotta color.

My first reaction, like mbarstow's, was to suggest black. I also like the tanbrown.

Tan Brown and Sapphire Blue/Brown are beautiful stones. However I think a more uniform dark stone surface would be nice. The blacks are obvious choices as well as the very dark almost black greens such as Labrador or Ubatuba.

I'm going to be the voice of dissent and suggest something with more color. How about something like Giallo Fiorito?

Giallo fiorito is tops on my list!! I like it and ti gives a nice contrast. Any other ideas?

I really like your kitchen by the way. I am not too sure about the fiorito with your backsplash color wise- ( I think I have similar color backsplash and its tricky to photograph the color so obviously you would know the real deal) .... and I do like the darker ones that are suggested. It sounds like you are looking for a change of color scheme- how about lapidus classic for example?

I agree, go dark, I think the one on the far right would be lovely. I have seen this granite in person, it is very rich looking. It will pull out the terracotta in the wall. Hands down..that is the one...easy choice.

I think black would look great with your black appliances - maybe even soapstone - don't know if you've considered that. Also Crema bordeaux would look good - can have greens and reds mixed with tans. Slabs vary widely.

Of the three choices you show with the backsplash, the one on the right, the darkest one, looks as if it would pull everthing in your kitchen together, including black appliances and darker stripe in backsplash. Really nice kitchen. The others who responded to your post have some good suggestions for alternatives also.

Crema Bordeaux would be my first choice, then Tan Brown. What's lovely about Crema bordeaux is the reddish/rust veins that run thru it since you now have terracotta paint.

don't be afraid of pattern and color.

the one on the far right seems to look best with your backsplash. it will also pull in the black appliances.

I don't think any of the others go with your backsplash. the backsplash limits the counter top options.

it looks like the flecks in the dark one (far right) pick up the colors in your brickish backsplash. and it sounds like your paint color will also.

they should complement each other, not fight each other.

I worry that really dark will be hard to keep clean, lol. I returned that sample already, so I can't take another pic ,but I admit that I was drawn to that one first. My friend has the same one. It is called Tan Brown.

My vote is for the one on the far right, also, for the same reasons desertsteph posted. It looks like it would tie everything together beautifully!

I think dark also. I don't know enough about granite to suggest any (but the one you have a sample of is not a bad match at all!) but a dark counter would anchor your stove nicely.

Out of the 3 you posted, I also like the Tan Brown. I would probably go with a black like Black Pearl.

I have the Baltic Brown. It's much darker than the image shows in your post. The whole photo looks a bit washed out. I think the Tan Brown looks best of the choices you've pictured and I don't think you'll have trouble with it showing "stuff". Really, there's too much going on in the granite. It's busy, it's going to camouflage most everything. In fact, to see those pesky crumbs or jelly smears (or your glasses) you'll have to get eye level with the countertop :)

the tan brown looks really ORANGE for some reason. I saw a slab today and hated it. For goodness sake, this is making me crazy! someone do this for me, i can't decide!! I did see a dark crema bordeuax that looked nice - do you think that it's too pink?

The crema bordeaux I looked at wasn't pink at all. Some of the slabs I saw were mostly greenish colors. Just depends on the particular slab.

Today I saw a blackish green color called butterfly - it was really nice.. maybe that will pull in the green from the backsplash.

If you're interested in the butterfly, you may want to also look at Uba Tuba, Verde Peacock or any of the others in the Laboradite family. They all have a green tint, but look dark at a distance. We have Verde Peacock and are really happy with it.
