AnnieDeighnaugh-what is the name of your GF's backsplash tile?

Hi Annie-- I just saw the photos of your GF's kitchen backsplash you posted in response to a2gemini's post about tile backsplash design. I really like the subtle variation and color of that tile--it looks like it would go well with my granite. Could you please tell me the name of it, who makes it, where I can buy it, etc?

I am also considering the Rixi Crema, like a2gemini. However, I think the subtle gold in your GF's tile might be prettier with my granite and cabinet combination. What do you think, since you have seen the tile in real life? Here is a close up of my granite with the rixi crema propped up (in front of a white piece of paper). In the photo the soft gold running throughout my granite looks more like a cream color than gold, but it really is a soft gold color with a background color that is whitish gray, and streaks of gray running throughout.

HOwever, from a distance, it can be hard to see the gold--as you see in this photo:

Thanks for any help you can give (and if anyone else wants to add any thoughts or suggestions, I am all ears!)

I'm thinking it was a cream crackle, but I'll verify when I hear from her.

Thanks so much for the compliments. I just sold that house!! I had signed the contract for the granite counters three days before we went into escrow on the one we're building. Anyway, it's a tumbled multi-color slate. That's what it's called and I have seen it several places. We bought ours at Arizona tile. It's a nice combo of the gray tones, black and red with a little tan thrown in. We put the red dragon on the counters and I about croaked because it clashed with the maple cabinets. It all came together with that tile. We used an enhancer on the stone and there's an accent 2x2 black glass tile that's used periodically. If I had realized how the enhancer would darken it (the tile) up, I would have used a darker grout. Jodi, You have truly set a trend all across the country. I'm in Oklahoma. I went to a local store and specifically asked for Jeffery Court, Pietra Opus, Fire & Ice and had a copy of one of your photos with me. They asked if I had already been in and when I said "NO"... they said another lady had just come in recently and asked for the exact same thing! They said that they could get it from one of their dealers. They quoted me $16 and no shipping! Just now, I went to the Jeffery Court website and found that there is a dealer in Oklahoma that carries it. I'm sure that's where my local dealer is getting it from. I'm calling them tomorrow to see if it's any cheaper if I buy directly from them & pick it up in person. I've also asked about getting 2x2 dark red glass to replace some white tiles like you did but the so-called 2x2 tiles really vary, none are truly 2x2... so I'm curious how it'll look. yep that's my kitchen. Sorry it's not in your budget, but gpraceman does have a good idea about granite tiles. I have seen these used in place of granite slabs for the counter, when a budget dictated it. "To Me", they did not look that bad. I had to redo the area of the granite where the cook top is, due to a bad choice I made about cooktops, a 36" semi-circle Caldera. It died in about a year and the company went broke, so I had to replace it with a rectangular induction cooktop, Hence the granite rework. Well I could find Granite remnants (Arandis Gold) for next to nothing, (I paid about $75 for a little less than a half slab. So you may be able to do that too, and then have it cut to sizes you want for the tile, myself, the bigger the better, and the less grout lines. Thanks for your kind words about my kitchen, it is pretty unique, and as we tell folks here, Do what makes you happy, after all, it's your kitchen. For those of you that do like tiles and grout, that's great, as long as it's what you want, and you're not following others or doing what you "Think", might help sell the house later. Gary

Sorry for the multiple post...I was getting error messages and didn't think it posted at all.

Anyway, her tile is very yellow.....far more yellow than what I'm seeing in your counter top. And her counter was verdi karzai by akdo which is a very different color tile. We were working with the accent tile in her counter so it didn't need to be exact where as you are working with the main color of the granite so it has to pick up the mood more precisely. Also, I know you say you're seeing a soft gold in it, but from your pictures, I'm not seeing any gold in the granite at all, except where it is reflecting the gold paint on the wall. Where the granite is away from the wall, there is no gold.

We took a hunk of her granite to the tile store and selected the tile there, looking at both under the same lighting conditions. We then brought the samples home and looked at it again in the room before finalizing our choice. It would be best for you to do the same.

I sent her an email asking the exact name/maker of the tile and when I hear from her, I'll let you know.

Thanks, Annie, for the information. I have a Tile America store about an hour away from me, so I will go check it out. The first photo makes the granite look deceivingly beige overall. The colors of the background (gold and greyish white or cream) seem to blend together a bit more in that photo than it does in real life when you are that close, though from a distance you can hardly see the gold at all, as you can tell from the second photos. The two photos do give you an idea of how different the counter looks in different lighting, as from different distances!IT is driving me crazy!

I know realize that it would have been far easier to find a light colored wall tile to contrast with a darker granite than try to blend with the overall color of a light colored granite. That is why I think a tile with some sublte variation, like your GF's (or even the rixi crema has a little bit of variation) might work.However, if the tile your GF used is more yellow than gold it won't work well. Ah well....I still would love to know the name of the tile if you can get it. Thanks.
