Costco - Ancona Chef Under Cabinet Hood

Does anyone have or know anything about this Ancona range hood offered at CostCo? The 36" is $579 and is 900 CFM. Also says it has 4 speeds from 1.5 to 6.5 sones and has baffle filters. Seems like a good deal or am I missing something? I am looking to vent a 30" Bosch gas freestanding range. TIA

Wow; that does look like a good deal. I know there are a lot of Chinese manufacturers of hoods out there. People seem to have opinions about the origin of manufacture. I'm not sure I know enough about such generalizations to hazard an opinion about it. I would strongly suggest posting this on the appliances forum; there are many very knowledgeable ventilation experts who reside over there.

Costco is famous for its warrantee of course. I might ask them what they cover for this; probably the whole shebang, but still I'd ask. They won't fix it if necessary or anything; just take it all back.

Fwiw the quietest way to go is to rig something up with the fan distant from the kitchen, inline in the attic. This was important to me but obviously we all have different issues.

Again, read all about it all and ask over at the appliances forum....

Also, I might call Costco and ask if they can determine who makes the fan itself. It would be helpful to know the manufacturer of that if possible.

Aliris- I found Ancona's website. It is just difficult to find reviews.

30" distance is ideal. Close enough for capture area, high enough so you can stir tall pots and not feel claustrophobic. If you MUST do 27", then you must. But not lower.

Calling All Chefs over 6 Feet Tall...

Hi swiss: we're tall (me 5'11" and DH 6'3") so we raised our counters; counter tops are ~ 39.5" tall. The grates for the cooktop sit at least an inch higher, probably more. The space b/w the top of the grates and the bottom of the center of the mantel is about 28"; the distance from the bottom of the fans to the top of the grates is about 28.5". This is very comfortable for both of us. The hood doesn't come out as far as the front of the counter so it's not in our faces and wouldn't be unless we leaned way over the cooktop (which of course we wouldn't do if any of the burners were on!) Since I did my kitchen before finding GW, I just followed the lead of the installers and cabinet guy, and didn't think about the fact that the fans are more effective over the back burners than the front (since the hood is set back a bit.) Still works for us because my biggest burner is in back and that's the one that gets the messiest stuff. Here's a pic if it helps...

My daughter recently changed out her OTR microwave for a under cabinet hood. She had a similar dilemma but the cabinet over cooktop was 17" deep. She only had 32 inches from cook top to bottom of the cabinet so she needed a low profile vent hood with a height of about 6" or the hood would be too low and in her face. She did not want to remove the cabinet because she needs every inch of storage she has in her small kitchen. Pulling a hood out that was 12" deep at the top but 20 or more inches at the bottom would have brought the hood out almost to the edge of her counter. She opted to just mount the hood all the way back and let the cabinet overhang the hood. She had looked at a couple different Zephyr models because they are deeper at the top but decided if her cabinet was going to overhang the hood it didn't matter if it was 2" or 5", she'd just have to get used to it. I thought it was going to look terrible but it isn't all that bad. Before: After: Hope you can get yours figured out to your satisfaction.
