That is absolutely gorgeous. I go back and forth about whether I want the glaze or not. I think it was a great decision for your kitchen. I think between you and your cabient maker, you've thought of everything. I think your kitchen look fine without a blackspash, but if you get one, I would definitely keep it simple. I like the one Lisa used originally if you could find it in the right color.

Yes, I had a good cabinet maker (who also cooks alot), but I had a good KD also. I worked last summer long distance with a KD whose name I got from GW. I did not feel comfortable working with local people and then not using them. I wound up with a workable plan that I could take and get price quotes to compare apples to apples.

My cabinet maker and I made some changes, such as I decided I wanted to move the refrigerator, but it is close to the original. I also did not think I could use an apron sink in the corner and she said she would make the cabinet to fit. If I only had 23 inches, she made the cabinet 23 inches. Both of these people did a wonderful job!

I noticed that you have the Kohler Vinnata with the Shaw sink. Can you tell me if you have any problems with splashing? I love this combination and think it looks awesome, but I was worried about water splashing outside the bowl of the sink. Any comments from experience??

I am loving my sink and faucet. Both were splurges for me, and I learned about both of them here at GW. My sink is the 30" Shaw and the faucet is the full sized version of the Vinnata.

I am not having any trouble with splashing. I use the spray a lot, but I just pull the nozzle down and spray where I want it. When I have the spray off and using the stream, I do not notice any splashing.

I have never had a single sink before, but I am really enjoying this. It is big enough to hide any dirty dishes I have not put in the dishwasher and also to lay my cookie sheets flat for washing. I would have to say that my sink and faucet are every bit as good as everyone said. They are two of my favorite things in the kitchen.

This looks beautiful!!!!!!!!! So cozy!!!!!!! My layout is going to be very similar and I was wondering what is the size of your island and also the perimeter around it, especially the wall with the fridge? I'm slightly worried my is going to feel tight.....Thanks!

Thanks gglks! The countertop on my island is 40 x 58. One end has a small overhang (about 7 inches), so the base is not quite as long. I, too, worried that it was going to be too big for my room, but my cabinet maker assured me it would be OK and it has. I believe she was working with a 3'x4' base, but the countertop overhangs on each side, and that along with the posts on each corner, adds some inches. I did not have an island before, and I cannot believe how much I am enjoying it. If you needed too, I believe it would be just as functional a few inches smaller. It feels like the perfect size for us.

There is 36" between the stove and island, 36" between the dishdrawers and island, and 39" between the refrig and the island. On the refrig side, there is 42" from counter to counter. I believe my refrig could be pushed back farther, but I have not needed it to. I did get a counter depth refrig and I am so glad I did (I put my old refrig in the outside utility room). This is a main pathway from the outside door to the family room. I am usually the only one cooking so the aisle widths have not been a problem. I was used to a small kitchen before and now it feels like SO MUCH more room.

I've changed my mind a couple of times but after seeing your kitchen I'm thinking of changing it back. Your layout is similar to mine, do you mind me asking what the size of your kitchen is? It looks like you had a peninsula before? Do you miss it? Was it always cluttered? Your laundry room also looks similar to mine, is there anything you would change now after using it for a bit.

I love what you did! I think the glazing on the perimeter was such a good choice in coordinating the color with the island. It looks beautiful and very functional, too.

I have had a lot of compliments from people who have seen my kitchen for the first time, and especially from those who knew what it was like before. The best compliment I have had came earlier this week when a good friend saw it for the first time and she said "It is so functional." Besides wanting it to look good, I worked hard to make it functional for us.

The room size is 21 feet 3 inches by 13 feet 10 inches. This also includes the area where the table is and the wall with the two antique pieces. My long run of cabinets (which is the stove wall) is 14 feet long. Our old kitchen had a wall dividing the kitchen and what used to be the family room. We exended the cabinets and made a pennisula and, yes, it was always cluttered. We would come in and drop everything there. I am working hard not to do that with the island. So far I am very pleased with everything. I do not know of anything that I would change. If we still had children at home, I think the stainless steel appliances might be hard to keep, but since it is just DH and myself we are OK.

My long distance KD was Lyndi Sheasley from Interior Ideas, Inc. in Bellevue, WA. I know other GW'ers have used her and I got her name from here. She was very good to work with and I felt no pressure from her. I was able to take her plans to cabinet shops and get quotes to compare prices. In a small town it is very easy to make someone mad/hurt feelings, ect. so I did not want to spend time to work up designs and then not use them.

I need my backsplash and curtains to be completely finished, but I did finally bite the bullet and order the tiles for my backsplash. I hope I like them when they come in! I will post the finished product when completed.

Jan, What a dramatic change in your kitchen. It turned out just beautifully. I love how you did the glazed cabinets and the island pulled in the colors from the glaze. Your cabinetmaker did a great job. How does the Kohler Vinnata faucet work with your Shaw sink? Is there a lot of splashing?

Thanks pluckymama. The Vinnata works wonderfully with the Shaw. There is not any splashing unless you are working up high right under the faucet. I usually have my hands down in the sink basin if I am doing any kind of work. There is some dripping on the counters when I wash my hands and I go to cut off the water. You could eliminate that by putting your handle on the front. I checked one day to see if there was any splashing by turning on the water and letting it hit the bottom of the sink and there was none. I heard other people on this forum recommend the Shaw and the Vinnata and I will say, they are both great! I am enjoying them a lot.
