Not sure if these count as 'gadgets', but I think they're col: I am new to cast iron cooking and I am LOVING my cast iron cookware...A 15" skillet, a less often used 12" skillet, the griddle/grill dbl burner sized pan, and a Dutch oven. It's also amazing to have enough large and powerful burners to cook whatever we want for our large family...without doing it in shifts.

Other things I'm thrilled to have: prep sink, pantry, dbl oven, pull-down faucets, deep-drawer base cabs, and the big 'must have' to me, full-extension drawer glides.

something you can't even see-- radiant heated floors. It'll be great come winter time to have warm tootsies! And not have to deal with a radiator anymore.

I only got these because it was a free upgrade for ordering my cabs in April, but I LOVE my full extension soft close drawers! In my old kitchen the drawers were all threatening to fall out and break your toes!

Okay, you're all probably tired of reading about my favorite thing since this question has been asked numerous times here, but here it goes again. I LOVE the soft close for cabinet doors.

I should be a sales rep for Blumotion as I talk them up to everyone. They're just that good, IMO.

My favorite "show-everyone-who-comes-over" items are my induction cooktop, cover control disposal and walk-in pantry.

I don't think I have a lot of gadgets, but right now I'm lovin' it all even if they're basics -- my azul macaubas granite (okay, it's not a gadget, nor is it basic), my Thermador range (I make everyone who walks in the door hold their hands way, high above the burner to check out its power) and DW, my LG fridge that's cut my electricity bill 20%, my too-cute island knobs, my bread and onion/potato baskets, my frosted glass pulls (my girlfriend admitted that she was wrong and I was right -- they go wonderfully with everything else in my kitchen), my hdwd floor, my compost crock (a GW idea), oh yeah did I mention my blue granite? More than anything else I love that it's MINE and it's (almost) FINISHED, and I have SPACE. :)

Our company builds these tall floor to ceiling pullouts that are sturdy and beautiful. The hardware can take 500lbs.

As far as ranges go I think La Cornue CornuFé ranges are beautiful. Also do a search for a company called Reversica, their product is amazing.

Instant hot water tap. i have filtered hot and filtered cold (room temperature). I use the hot every morning to make French Press coffee, and every evening for tea. i no longer use a tea pot or the microwave to heat water. it is awesome. .. worth the entire cost of the remodel :-)

Loved in my former kitchen and will repeat in the one we're now planning: vac pan, P&P drawers, full extension drawers.

bluekit What is a compost crock?

A compost crock is a utensil jar/crockpot with a lid on it for green waste: coffee grounds, yucky salad leaves, tough parts of asparagus, etc. -- stuff that should go into a compost pile, not a landfill. I first heard about it on GW (if you do a search, abbycat might be in the thread??? in April-ish???) and bought mine at BB&B. I'm blue and green!

The BB&B link I'm providing shows that it's sold out online, but I've seen them at every BB&B store I've visited lately. The April-ish thread had a couple of links to jars in the $40-60 range. HTH.

kygirl, if memory serves, you started your build over 2 years ago...right? Tell me you are not still making kitchen decisions! Or are you remodeling already?!?

Favorite gadget? I don't know if I view my favorites as gadgets. All in all, I like everything we selected. The one item I saw someone here do and I copied is the 8 plug power strip just underneath the counter top over hang on the center island. Regrets - no sprayer for the prep sink but that can be added.

Favorite appliance? 60 inch Bluestar kick@ss range. I still cannot get enough of that one. Next? 2500 CFM vent hood that wafts away EVERYTHING near it.

I keep visiting the job site and pulling out the toe kick drawers (full extension heh heh) I have...8 of them in the kitchen :) My delongi espresso maker for the new kitchen will be worn out before the kitchen is done...but I do love it. :) The lacanche which encorporates a warming oven...but most of all....my chickens :oP (which are being finishe this week!) No one has chickens as cool as mine :oP

I will never live or work in any kitchen that doesn't have an electric kettle! It has always been a staple in any house I've ever lived in, so was I surprised to see that they are seldom seen in American kitchens! When I lived in Houston, I used to import them clandestinely for all my ex-pat friends. If I had to boil water in a kettle on my wussy Kenny cooktop, I'd wait forever for a cup of tea. "Hot" taps just won't do! Tea requires BOILING water.

You know...as lovely as a cornue is, I still have to lean on the flexibility and design style of a lacanche. I can afford both, but after looking I prefered the lacanche (a big issue isthose knobs and controls on the lower ovens...who wants to get on their knees to warm up the oven?) I guess that's what the servants are supposed to do heh heh

I was reading this thread again and it made me smile. After two years in the making, I actually have many many of the things that ya'll "love" because you all raved about them so much during my design phase that I had to have them too LOL Honestly though, my kitchen wouldn't have been half of what it will be if I hadn't been a member of GW. Little things like the pop up plugs, full extention, soft close, toe kick drawers, pot filler, drawers instead of doors, gad the list goes on and on, but I wouldn't have known about them without hearing it here.

So I guess I owe many GWers a huge thanks :)

But a few GWers owe me...because the danged yapping about some things I had to have lead me into spending more LOL So Pharaoh (I always spell that wrong) mustbenuts, gad and whoever showed me the Franke pot filler...you all need to cut a check and send it on right now :oP Pharaoh is the worst as he's lead me down an ugly path filled with onyx pavers....and it's a danged expensive path to push me onto LOL

great items, all! my instant hot tap and pot filler are two of my very fave items.

Double dish drawers, advantium 220, Thermador 48" range, warming drawer, 4'x 8' island, two undercounter U-Lines, one has an ice maker and the other a small freezer for snack attack foods, and tons of deep drawers. I also love my walk in pantry with shelves and 'electric' counter and a broom closet.

Thanks for all these "Must-haves"! We are just breaking ground on our remodel and are in the process of choosing cabs so I have not decided 100% on anything. I love all of your ideas. I swear, I don't know how I stumbled upon GW, but you all have helped me so much!!! Can you please show me a picture or tell me about the toe kick drawers that many have mentioned? Thanks.

As much as I love my soft-close drawers, my mw drawer and all the other cool things, I think my very favorite is our cooktop hood and backsplash. Together, they're like a unique, one-of-a-kind piece of art to me and the focal point of the kitchen . . . not including the views ;^)

a turbo chef oven to go along with my capital. i can't wait!

I like a high-powered stove, gas or induction. I like a faucet with an extra long spout so I don't get sore stretching my stubby little arms out to wash things.

And darn if I don't love the stupid little pop-up drain plug that came with my ghastly kitchen. How can it perform so flawlessly at 25 years old? That's going in the new kitchen for sure.

my favorite gadget is my spice pull-out:

Me, I'm most pleased with my new induction cooktop and all the drawers I now have for pots and pans, etc.

1. Induction cooktop (threw away my electric kettle because it boils water so quickly)

2. Undercabinet water filter (I don't like fridge-cold water)

3. Drawers everywhere with full extension and soft close

For me, it's pretty simple, but we have a Thermador oven with the temp probe. I LOVE it. You stick a roast, or large piece of meat, in there, put the probe in, set the finished temp, and let it go!! No need to keep pulling the dish out to check it. LOVE it, and the best thing is you don't have to buy a high-end brand to get it. I wish I had gotten it on a GE range I bought about 6 yrs ago in a previous house, but didn't know what I was missing out on.

Also have a pot-filler, and it's pretty handy. I canned some tomatoes earlier in the week, and it was so nice to just sit my big canner on the range, and fill 'er up! Otherwise it would have been a pain at the sink. In our previous house I had a pull out faucet, would sit the canner on the sink and pull the faucet over to it since the canner is bigger around than the sink...a pain.

Love a big pantry too.

I'm old-school: I love my chef knife. There's nothing I can't do with it that most of those other over-priced Pampered Chef contraptions don't do. Oh, and my whet stone for sharpening it. DH says I get glazed, crazy-man eyes while I'm slowly sharpening my favorite knife. Spooky, huh?

Tapmaster (use it the most!)
Sharp Drawer Microwave (works great &gets the most ooohs & aaaahs from guests)
Pull Out Spray Faucets at Both Sinks (great for cleanup,& filling tall vases on the counter)
Sink Grid (how did I ever get along before I had one?)
Warming Drawer (proofing bread is a lovely thing as are the warm tortillas & chips for dinner, warm plates,etc.)

Well, my kitchen still isn't quite done. But for now, it is my full extension drawers and the soft close on the doors and drawers. What a great feature. DB (dear boyfriend) used to make me jump everytime he shut (aka slammed) the cabinet door. Now it is quiet as a whisper--my whisper not his--he doesn't have a quiet bone in his body!

I also love my faucet (pre-rinse faucet). I now know why they use those things in restaurants. Makes your life so much easier.

My under cab lights which make my kitchen sexy!

My Bosch dishwasher. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE that thing. It is quieter than my new fridge. Cleans gunked up, caked on stuff that has been sitting there a week. Everything comes out clean as a whistle. Did I tell you that I love the thing?

Granite is not too bad either

Oh, by the way I Chick--check is in the mail... along with the other checks for CA state employees....Not so LOL...but one must keep a sense of humor...
