Finally 100% finished! Backsplash and WT done!

Our kitchen was finished last year except for the backsplash and window treatments. After several delays we are finally 100% finished!

I really liked the Sonama Tantrum glass tiles and we paired them with Jeffrey CourtÂs rooster and hen tiles. My husband raised Bantam chickens for many years, so the two tiles were for him. I liked that they were a neutral color and that they are almost the same color as our cabinets.

We first thought we would tile all the way up to the cabinets, but after living with the paint for a while, we decided just to do the border next to the counters. This way we can change paint colors if we want and give our kitchen a different look.

If you are new and did not see any of my posts last year, the prep sink is used mainly by my husband. He is an avid flower gardener and that is his place to spread out his flowers and water buckets. I do most of my prep work by the main sink and on the island. I am posting a few of the pictures here, and I will also post the link for all of the pictures. The details are at the bottom of this post.

Thanks to everyone for all of the ideas and help you gave me during this process! Without you this kitchen would not have been nearly as functional. After using it for almost a year, it works very well for us.

Very pretty kitchen. I love the way your two chicken groups complement each other and how the valance ties in. Did you make the window treatment yourself? It's really very attractive.

Beautiful kitchen and I really like that you didn't take the tile all the way up. Those rooster tiles really make a statement and are a lovely focal point. And I want a husband who is an avid flower gardener!!

Thank you all for your thoughts and support. The community here helped me pick my granite--I had one really long post with photos and had people give their opinions. Laura, I got it at a company called Cosmos; they are in several cities. Gemini, I love ABBS! Shorter to write, that's for sure. Mizinformation--I am rooting for your success! Our shelves weren't adjustable and given the number of other cabinets we needed, we opted to completely start over. Did you have those wonderful soffits to remove? We all had a turn with the Sawzall at least once. We did save a number of 2x4s from the soffits, and I have pix of my mother-in-law pulling nails out of them. B/S: I am leaning toward a light blue for the backsplash to pick up the color in the granite. I have seen some glass ones I like (kinda spendy for my budget) but now I'm stuck on what I'm doing with my shower. (I'd want all the tile done at the same time.)

Thanks everyone! Fori, see below. I used to have it "dressed up" a little more--a nice table runner, decorative stuff on the counter, but we've dissolved into "clean functional" around here with an 18 month old. I have an open floor plan, so all the rooms run together. As for the side of the fridge, it was a compromise between my clutter phobias and hubby's love of photos/magnets/etc. I will try to find the name of the paint, it was the builder original when we bought it, though I'm going to have to repaint this lovely flat with a more kid friendly version (same color though). I have closeups of the tile, too. It's the Lowes AO basic subway tile. I like it because it has some bevel and a much warmer white than the HD version. Thank you all, really appreciate your kind words! MareLuce, the range is a Frigidaire Progessional Slide-in Range. I love the look of it, but I am not thrilled with the cooking surface, it is much harder to keep clean than my Thermador cooktop was. Greenhaven, it is not induction, missed the mark on that one! A2gemini, the subway tile is From Daltile, the color is Bone. The frame is polished travertine. Lov_mkitchen, the spice rack is three 6" x 15" bamboo organizers I got from World Market. I also got the bottles there and cut the vinyl labels myself. I used a hot glue to glue the trays together and my husband is making a frame for the front as well as lips for shelves. As it is, it is not very stable, so it needs a wider base. Other than that, I love it! It holds 24 of my most often used spices with enough room to get them in and out easily. In this close-up photo, I have the jars turned to the side because I moved it to the big counter so my husband could take measurements, normally the names are in the front. I looked for a spice rack for 6 months before finally giving up! Raehelen, maybe some of us don't want to be finished because then we would have less of an excuse to drop in on GW! My husband thinks addicted. I'm proud to call myself TKO and I love this community! We do have one tiny unfinished business: still trying to get our danged granite people to come out and make a hole for a dishwasher air switch. We've been asking for almost a year. ADVICE TO EVERYONE ON GRANITE: Make sure you know everything you're going to want on your counter (faucets, hot water thing-y, etc.) when you order your granite, cuz they ain't gonna come back for one little thing! We are learning this the hard way. We even tried this weekend to rent a drill to make the hole ourselves -- how hard can it be, we thought? But the rental place didn't have anything suitable. So we're back to groveling with the granite fabricator.

Thanks for the compliments!

Writersblock I did not make the window treatments. They are roman shades and I was afraid to try them. I have them on both the kitchen windows and two back doors.

OMG! I have the same material in MY drapes!

Got the long panels to go on either side of our big window in the breakfast nook. but there weren't any valences. Had to get 2 more panels and cut them short for a little matching valence over the sink. It would have looked odd otherwise with both windows on the same wall. NEVER saw any roman shades. Wherever did you find that?

:) LOVE your kitchen BTW. This is really weird but my cabinets are white w/pewter glaze, antique nickel knobs and black quartz counters (Zodiaq Galaxy). Nice combination isn't it? LOL!

So I also have to ask, what color did you paint your walls??? It looks PERFECT with that Waverly Printemps fabric! We have zeroed in on BM Barley.

you did a great job! i love the island. i was looking at those rooster tiles from jeffrey court myself. i ended up with sonoma. i like the way you mixed them. you've got the best of both.

One thing: would you mind posting a photo of your roman shades down? i love the way they are made with the valence on the top. its very attractive done that way. you can't tell its a shade under there. it just looks like a very customized valence/top treatment. i would love to see how it looks when the shade is down. thanks.

Very nice. I love your backsplah and your island it really compliments your other cabinets which are beautiful. That window treatment is to die for I bet it was worth the wait!

biochem101--The roman shades were custom made. I ordered the fabric online, but I have also seen it in a couple of local fabric stores. The name of the fabric is Waverly Saison De Printemps, color Bordeaux. Our paint is BM Aura Honeymoon. It matches the fabric really well. I am sure your kitchen is beautiful. You have excellent taste!!

teppy--I am posting two pictures. One is of the large window with the window treatment and the other is the smaller window with the shade lowered. I would have liked to have left off the window treatments, but occasionally I need the privacy.

marybeth--Yes, it was worth the wait on the roman shades. I was on a waiting list for several months before the lady was able to get them made. I am very pleased with them and she did an excellent job.

That's a great kitchen, and the chicken touches are perfect--just enough. Wonderful job!

(By the way, Roman shades are actually pretty easy for a sewing novice, if you can sew straight!)(I can't, but my shades still turned out mostly OK.)

The backsplash looks wonderful, but I'm wondering why Sonoma calls them Tantrum tiles. Were they hard to install ;)? Really, though, it looks great, I love your color combination, and I love the chicken tiles. Your husband raises hens and flowers? Surely he is a gentle man. Lucky you!

Okay, mine is not as nice as yours but I have to post it. (Although the only picture I have of it looks a little crooked!) And I can't take another right now because I can't get in the kitchen (tile is setting).

Your shading is browns and mine is grays. You can't see it too well, but we even have similar appliance garages! It's spooky. Good thing yours was done last year before I got here or you'd think I was stalking you.

Oh-so-pretty, and I love your backsplash! I've been toying with the idea of a roman shade, myself. Your shade may have convinced me--it's really lovely!
