granite install questions

I got my granite installed yesterday and I have a large island - about 11 ft. 5 inches. It isn't a rectangle but goes from 4 feet at one end and tapers to about 3.5 feet at the other. My question is the overhang around the granite. At one end of the island it's 1/2 inch and the other it's 1.5 inches. I'm sure this was challenging as it is a very heavy piece and took 4 men to carry it in. Is it normal for overhangs on large pieces to have some variance? I am thinking of bringing this to the owner's attention. Not sure anything can be done at this point.

Also, in another section I have a beverage center that will have no backsplash. Where the end meets the wall is a gap. Do granite people usually fill this gap with translucent caulking? What has been other's experiences?

Thanks. I have found the folks on this website invaluable in doing this project (which has taken me almost a year to plan and have been living through the actual work for about 4 weeks now).
