Great kitchen redo! My compliments. The granite is gorgeous!

I'm not a kitchen expert, but I have read that, with beautiful, interesting granite one should do simple tile (probably same color as your cabs in your case). I agree. I would not distract from the granite by putting a design behind the stove. It would be almost impossible to match the granite anyway. Just MY two cents...

WOW that is some cool looking granite! I agree with dilly not to do anything fussy. A simple glass subway in a single misty pale greenish-blue is what I would sample first. I would use the sample color you have painted as a starting point. To me it is too blue and dark. I would find something with more green in the color and go lighter. I would say let the granite take center stage and nix the detail over the stove. If you have a remnant of your counter and want to do a 24"x24" framed slab as a decorative element above the stove it will add interest without competing with tops. Just a quick thought ;)

Look at that cute golden snuggled in the little space between the leg and the cabinet. So cute! The granite is awesome looking and I can't believe the transformation. What about a white tile that goes with your cabinets? You could even pick something that has a little of a green hued white. Hopefully you know what I mean.

I think a simple ceramic tile with a hint of green or blue would look great. Since you have the OTR microwave, I don't think there's really enough space to do something different behind the range.

I'd pick up that beautiful blue/green in a subway tile.

Very cool, very different granite. It's fabulous. Take a look at posts of remodelfla's recent backsplash install ...she has used a long rectangular sea-glass colored glass tile. Something like that would I think serve you well.
I'm inclined to agree with coastal modern about the paint color, fwiw, too. It seems a bit too intense...a little too much to let the granite shine.

Another unsolicited funky suggestion: Perhaps it's a combination of the unusual patterning in the granite and the name (Jurassic green), but I can't help thinking it reminds me of both dinosaur (or maybe turtle?) eggs and for some reason, footprints (maybe it's the ovalish shapes combined with the color. To me, it has a water/shoreline vibe to it.) If you were looking for some sort of motif to play off with little bits of artwork or the like...I think either would be rather cool.

I'm right there with you. We have picked so many different backsplashes and can't decide. I love your Granite and love how your dog has found a favorite cubby hole already. My cabinets are the same as yours and I want a contrast against the white but have chosen a busy granite so don't want the backsplash to compete. I think you've gotten some great suggestions and I only have one commment, I don't think you need a design over the stove. Maybe you could look at a light subway tile with a glass mosaic trim to bring in the shoreline vibe as melissastar suggested.

I think it would match the organic feel of your awesome granite, without distracting from it. The granite would still be the star it begs to be, with the backsplash as a supporting role.

Thanks everyone! I agree about the over the stove idea, really not a focal point so I don't see the need to emphasize it. After one more trip to the tile store and the sales persons opinion I think my husband has accepted that. The blue behind is just left over from my attempt to cover up the yellow stripes that I couldn't stand anymore.

We are leaning towards a greyish subway tile (glass) as there is a lot of great grey in the countertop. I am afraid to go too blue or sea green mostly due worrying about one color overload....thoughts? I'll see if I can get a picture up but it's a fairly light grey with just a hint of brown

Also, thanks to everyone here, we found the paint color for the cabinets (BM soft chamois) after much agonizing and having friend over to review the options.

We are also doing a kitchen re-do and are leaning toward the glass subway tile with a bluish tint. One thing to keep in mind is that this sort of tile will look best with a bright white grout. Especially around the range this will turn grey pretty soon.

One of my carpenters mentioned that there is a two-part epoxy-based grout product out there that hardens to a non-staining surface. I have not done the research into this, but make sure your tile person uses something like that.

I really like your potential tile and think it would look better than trying to match one of the colors. By giving it a more neutral bs, the colors of the granite will pop more IMHO. I think the gray is ideal for your counter and cabinet combo. Your search would be over if it were my vote!
If you really want color, use that for paint, but I agree not to do anything vibrant.

What a beautiful kitchen with especially beautiful granite! I agree with all of the posters above (though as a disclaimer I'm brand new here and certainly not experienced). I am about to start our kitchen reno in the next few weeks and I also have been told about the GroutOnce sealant additive for grout and intend on using it on our creamy crackle finish tile with biscuit colored grout. Good luck with your final choice! I can't wait to see it!

I think you're on the right track. The potential selection is exactly what I was envisioning! Something with some color but not too much color.

Hi again, Melissastar we live very close to the beach, so it feels like a coastal kitchen to me also. Our son with Asperger's is a huge dinosaur fan, so the name of the granite was all he needed to be happy! The link to remodelfla's kitchen comes up as an advertisement? Is there a way to look up her pictures? I like the lagoon as an accent, we'll see if we can make it fit in somewhere...When we ever get it done, I'll post some more pics. So, I took the sample back that I really think would be great. I phoned last night and got a quote. Today I asked her to write down the color, price, etc and the price was more than double what I was told yesterday. I am so annoyed. My husband does all the work and for once I wanted him to not have to put the price plus install is just too much for us. Maybe a couple extra days of work to justify it! I will call manager Monday to see where such a huge error could have been made...

Just MO, but if your paint is going to be that blue I think you should go with the khaki tone. I think the greens, although cool in tone, wouldn't blend as well. Can you tell me who the mfg is? I'm going through the same decision. It's awfully painful isn't it?

It says CTC on the board. The blue will be covered. It's just old paint. The blue to the left I think we are going to tone down.

Not only will it pick up on the porch ceiling, it will nicely offset the roundness of the stones in your counter.

I love your beautiful granite.
I think khaki tones or light creamy white would be subtle
and show off your stone to perfection.

The "more options" tiles look uncannily as though each color was matched to your granite, so I think that the color that the walls are going to be might weigh heavily in your tile choice.

Or you could go the other way: pick the tile color that looks best with the granite in both natural and artificial light, then pick a paint color afterward.

In any case, your kitchen looks great and I am pretty sure that your granite has got to be as pleasing everyone else [including this not big fan of granite] who sees it as it is to your son.

OT: Is it my imagination or do you have skylights in either a sunroom roof or a porch roof that are aligned to allow more light into your kitchen?

First, I too love the name of the granite as it does look like dinasaur eggs or how I imagined them to look. Second, I love how the dog has found his cubby. He looks so comfortable. Most importantly in whatever you choose for the BS, I think it should be subtle and keep your paint choice in mind. I definately don't think you need a focal point behind the range. For some reason, I can't open your links to your tile choices.

Wow! what great granite! It reminds me of that seagrass tile that has the fossils in it. I agree with Honorbiltkit, that all the colors on that board would go, and bring out a different color, so that grey is obviously in the right palette. Can't wait to see your finished kitchen. (bet you can't either!)

Thanks! Davidtay are those 4x12? The blue walls are throughout the living area but those were done one manIc January to cover up the dirty yellow. I am liking BM November rain and may paint the adjoining area that color. Very soft grey/green/blue depending On the light. It's painted above window in kitchen. I am awaiting some tile samples and hopefully will have a tile soon. I really like a soft grey with hints of brown. I find the way they sell tile quite annoying. I.e. Must buy box and therefore end up with 9 sq feet more than needed!

honorbiltkit-yes there are skylights on the screen porch. Helps for sure with the light.
