Would this annoy you? My feelings are kind of hurt
Comments (36)Quite frankly, I don't think it's ANYONE's responsibility to buy gifts for anyone... kids make stuff. My kids always made me stuff in school for Mother's Day & Christmas... they made me card or picked me flowers on my birthday. Or they just gave me a hug and said I love you mom... and that's pretty much all I ever needed. It's nice if parents get along well enough to take kids to buy something and if they want to... no problem. If it's an issue where you want nothing to do with ex and kids ask to buy something, I'd say "why don't you make something?" I'm probably alone here, but my opinion is that the world is too darn commercialized and everyone has to buy a card for this or that or send flowers or buy a present. Thank you to Hallmark! We see aisles of gifts for Christmas BEFORE Thanksgiving.. sometimes before Halloween. We see gifts for Halloween... who gives a gift to their teacher on Halloween? WHY? It's a holiday to trick or treat, not give a card or gift. I just think it's silly and really should be a non issue. From the time my kids were 7 or 8, maybe I would give them a little cash & let them buy each other a Christmas present at a dollar store or Target... just a little something. (not always, but a few times & my daughter always bought me a scented candle at dollar tree... I loved it because it was from her, but a hug would have been enough too) I don't get why it is such a big deal nowadays. After my parents divorced, neither of my parents took us shopping for the other... I would have thought "why is he/she doing that?" since I was well aware that they are divorced. (and yes, I was witness to my mom doing some of the things SM's complain about BM's doing for the DH's... and yes, her motive was to piss off my SM and hoping my dad would want her back.. so although I know all BM's don't do it for that reason, I will admit that I am biased as that goes.) As a child of divorce, it was very uncomfortable for me when my mom would say or do things to interject herself in dad's life because I knew dad didn't want her to but he also didn't want to be mean to my mother... because she was my mother. So, I get why these DH's do put up with a lot, but I also wish my dad had stood up for himself more than he did. If he had put her in her place, my life would have been less uncomfortable....See MoreDid I just hurt my plants?...
Comments (11)kayseeg, I would be very interested in seeing pictures of your application of this gel around plants, especially plants with a succulent stem like seedlings. I've seen such gels sold before, and have only seen ill effects from their use. I was surprised that they even still sold such a product. I would also consider being careful not to use much of this gel where you want to plant salt sensitive plants in the future. I'm glad you had what you perceive as good results, but I remain extremely concerned about the use of this product in a garden. I would avoid the Wilco snail like the plague. It is just a cheap gel with a significant amount of salt content. I see this as a case where the cure is worse than the disease. Yes, the gel might kill a snail that went through it, but you are adding about 25 g of salt to your soil per container of gel. I've seen similar snake oil products before. Folks used to make a gel like this from soil moisture absorbing polymers and cornstarch with added salt. The cost of making the Wilco product is probably very tiny, but my suspicion is that it is sold for over $1/pound--exorbitant in my opinion. I wondered if I was being overly cautious about this stuff, so I called our extension folks who confirmed my thoughts, and also my put is on an agenda for master gardener training to help spread the word. I seldom get worked up much about garden remedies sold, but this one piqued my ire because it could hurt folks plants and soil. Renais...See MoreI'm sorry you're so hurt.
Comments (122)Some thoughts. I'll miss Annie and hope she returns soon. Be aware that when someone states something akin to the following, it uses fallacious reasoning. Ex. "My brother has two PhDs (art history and biology) and he doesn't think for one second that the Challenger blew up because of a faulty O-ring." Unless the brother is an expert in the field at hand, his PhD or post doc or Mensa score is irrelevant. The above statement employs the logical fallacy _argument from authority_ or _appeal to authority_. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Argument_from_authority There are people with assorted degrees who might habitually leave a cooked turkey on the counter overnight or goof when composing a simple sentence. Business owners tend to vote for the party they think will be better for their bottom line. The voters who supported Trump don't all come from the same motivation or perspective. I believe a good many (professionals or tradespeople, marginally employed or unemployed) might well be low-information(*1) voters. Some are surely racist, mysogynistic, anti-gay. I know (but don't play with Trump supporters who have spoken disparagingly of blacks, non-whites, and gays (LGBT). If someone utters the N word, or jig------ or other term, I think it's safe to conclude something unmistakable about what they are about in some of their beliefs. * LIVoter -- strong tendency toward unidimensional news, headline, emotional news; not wide, in depth or varied. I believe that there is a substantial element of internalized misogyny in some of the women disliking HRC. I think Trump recognized a good amount of "identity anxiety" and accompanying anger. "Crap, we've got a Whitehouse full of blacks and their friend for eight years! What? Now a woman! Maybe a femnazi. Over my dead body." Hillary Clinton, a "flawed" candidate? Remember Lee Atwater's handbook -- just repeat something often enough and long enough... Even NPR began parroting Fox News. There were no shenanigans with the Clinton Foundation. No quid pro quo. If certain officials from this or that country donated large sums, keep in mind that the Clinton Foundation does an enormous amount of charitable work both domestically and globally. It get's a solid "A" from a well regarded organization that reviews and rates charities. If King Tut gave a large donation to the CF in an attempt to curry favor politically, well, looks like all he got was tofu curry. HRC was repeatedly smeared by certain RW operators and media outlets. She got an undeserved bad rap. And repeated misinformation, sensationalized and misleading or untruthful headlines can stick to almost anyone. It's not about facts or truth, but about the power of innuendo or out and out lies (ex. The recent engineered lie by Fox News right before the election and which legitimized Trump repeating it at his rallies -- that an indictment would be forthcoming. BS of course, but I'll bet more than a few people still believe it, even though the liar "walked it back" more than a day later. Fox did a similar lie trick before Bush-Cheney's invasion of Iraq. I've seen more than a few straw man posts. Don't put words into someone else's mouth (post), then proceed to argue against them. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Straw_man Tonight 60 Minutes features an "interview" with Trump. Unfortunately the interviewer is going to be a softy. I imagine that is the only way the Donald would agree to it. No Anderson Cooper. And I doubt we'll ever see a well-informed strong interviewer get to sit down with Trump....See MoreCabinet errors: what would you do?
Comments (41)They pressured me to pick a stucco color to match existing from a 1" square. The stucco lady left trash in my garbage, didn't clean up her mess, and her tools and equipment have been left haphazardly all over my property for weeks now. Including one time leaving a tool bag of shears and sharp tools on my patio chair within reach of my kids for 4 days. Left on Friday, didn't return until Tues. She wants to charge me $50 per stucco sample. She sent this email to my contractor "Is that the only sample she wants because I'm not gonna come back day after day to put a different sample up." She took no effort to match my existing color and wants to charge me $50 per sample. They had my original stucco color for months, said it can't be color matched and is discontinued... She is upset because I asked them to ask her to clean up her equipment because she isn't scheduled to return until 2 weeks! I contacted the manufacturer directly today. They will send me 12 x 12 actual samples for free and a sample of the updated formula of my original stucco. Said if none of those worked, they would color match. Needless to say, I told them I'll get my own samples. Wow! This has been like this for 3 weeks now since she hasn't returned to finish. It's been raining off and on but there were several days of sun in between. Ripped out my shrubs and threw them on my property Knocked out my light...See Morelisaslists2000
