Who is at fault and what would you do on this big design error
Comments (4)Did your KD know you were getting a DW with a handle instead of just the latch? Did you provide her with the specs? Did you understand that by choosing a DW with a handle, the corner cabinet would need a larger filler and the peninsula would be longer, impacting both your clearances at the aisle and the usability of that corner cabinet? There are tradeoffs for everything. When you place an appliance right next to a corner cabinet, you have to be really careful to use the right size fillers, and often clients don't like the look of the larger filler needed and the "wasted space" that it appears to be and KDs compromise for the "form" instead of the "function" We weren't there for the design meetings and don't know what went on in the back and forth of client/KD as far as your mandates vs. the KD's function check. I'd have to say that if you didn't give the KD the specs on the DW, then you are at fault, and if you did, then she is at fault unless you, the client, overruled using the larger filler for aesthetic sake. Even then, she should have made you sign a waiver about not being able to open the door. At this point, though, it doesn't matter whose fault it is, because the only real fix is to give up the DW with the handle and get a "regular" DW with a latch. If you'd be willing to do that to fix the problem, then that's probably a cheaper DW than what you have originally, and if the error is the KD's I'd have her purchase the 2nd DW and put the original handled DW where your DD is, and save the DD for a wet bar somewhere else....See MoreWhat would you do to these kitchen cabinets, backs splash, wood floor
Comments (14)kempek01 The house was done in warm colors until the last couple months when I have started liking cooler colors. Not sure what the change was in me maybe to brighten things up a bit or midlife wall paint change. I'm not good with colors and I wanted more of a gray however this gray is more of a blue it is SW reflection. I think it also makes the cabinets look more orange. Someone suggested SW agreeable gray or one that has warmer tones. I love to paint it actually relaxes me, picking out colors not so much. We are painting our ceilings white as they still have the builder paint. I read your comment to my husband and he asked how much chocolate I need. Thank you for a much needed laugh and to help with the anxiety of all these choices. Again I stink at putting everything together. I should have said that the island cabinet was used as a separation anxiety relief toy for our dog so that does need to get fixed. You are correct on the next owner thank you again for the laugh. I am torn between doing something for me for the next five years or saving for my forever home....See MoreFinish issues with a cabinet install... What would you do?
Comments (3)Thank you for the input! It's all kind of un-level from the floor to the wall and ceiling. The cabinet company measured and the rendering even showed the sloped ceiling. Structurally, it's a historic barn that has been converted to a house. Then there was a porch which was converted to a kitchen, hence the slope in the ceiling. The roof is sloped as well....See MoreArchitect Drawing Error - What would you do? - Update: Closed
Comments (16)We can't determine who is at fault here since we don't have enough information. More pictures would be helpful, but I would be reluctant to make any changes to the window both from the standpoint of cost and daylight. Changing the railing is the easiest and least costly fix, perhaps the way Corlett suggests. You will need to do it in a way that satisfies code, so I would involve the building inspector. The total cost of any change should be born by whoever is determined to be at fault....See Morelisadlu16
