Grout Color for Crema Marfil tile backsplash

Lots of beautiful backsplashes using cream marfil. Can't wait to get mine started - I'll be using 3 x 6's. I don't trust my GC on some color choices, and was wondering what grout color you all used for your crema marfil - mythreesonsnc? or the marcy's - both 96 and dc I think it is, and Cali Wendy or anyone else?

I didn't want to hijack your threads. Also, did any of you find significant difference in color or qaulity purchasing through cool tiles vs. Home Depot or elsewhere? They want to start Tuesday, so I was thinking of just using the ones at HD. The only other ones I saw were a 2 x 4 mosaic at Lowe's which seemed more green to me.

Thank you both so much! Bone is exactly what I was thinking too! My GC guy worries me sometimes with color choices, and he can be sooo extreme. "No-one uses blah blah blah" He even said no-one puts glass front cabinets in, or hangs pendants over sinks. I didn't get my pendant afterall, but I love my little glass front cabinet!

Hopefully they will know this - but I think I recall something about adding the sealer to the grout before actually grouting. The tiles are honed and therefore don't need to be sealed or enhanced, correct? I am just not leaving anything up to chance anymore!

Hi Colorado, We used bone color grout. I am not sure about the ones at HD or Lowes --- I didn't know they had Crema Marfil! I know on the travertine floor tiles, my tile guy said to watch out for the "pitting" meaning the holes on some of the tiles. If the quality isn't great, the pitting can go all the way through. I am not sure what to look for in Crema Marfil, other than they told me all of the tiles in my boxes were not the exact same thickness, so they had to pick through a bit to find more consistent ones. Lastly, I did look at several local tile shops and their crema marfil was quite a bit darker and more pink. So, from my perspective, if it looks like a good color, is pretty consistent depth and size-wise and you can get is asap, go for it and post pics when you are done! Can't wait to see it!

Hello! I can't remember my grout color! I'm think it is bone, but not 100% positive.

I bought 12x12's at $7.50 each at a small local store (San Francisco). My contractor cut them into 3x12's. I think he charged me $300 for that so I still came out ahead precut and got the size I wanted.

I did look at the ones at HD but they seemed a little more whitish to me and with much less veining. I liked the reddish veining with my cabinets. Could have been the poor lighting there - I didn't take home any samples.

bixa i would say its more on the pink side like ovenbirds looks in the photo above. here is another pic where i think the white balance is better since the green on the walls looks right to me. it does not show a whole lot of the tiles, but what you can see is accurate. i'm linking the tile on sonomas website. to me it looks more pink on this site than in person. beachcomber: We have Verde Peacock granite, which is similar to Uba Tuba. mmomx2: Three years ago we couldn't find any 2x4 honed/acid washed crema marfil tiles, so we had the stone guys cut them from 12x12s which we used in the bathroom. I don't know specifically how much this backsplash cost, but it was probably more expensive than precut tiles due to extra labor. We did find 4x4 tiles with pillowed edges, but really wanted the 2x4 look. dkass: I bet your 1x2s will be gorgeous!

I know what you mean by not trying to match. Some of us are fine with backsplashes and/or granite with the WOW fator. After having so much trouble, as you are with the backsplash, I am happy I have a classic neutral. What I like about the Grazia Rixi is that when they are installed they give the illusion of a handmade tile. So, you get a bit of uneveness between the tiles. I understand what you mean about the glass and I looked into it too. I was advised against it because of my traditional cabinets and oak floor. But if your cabinets have a modern feel, the glass might work. I spoke to so many tile people! I think they like the glass because it comes in so many colors that you are bound to find one that will meet your needs. But, you have to really like the look of it. Good luck and keep us posted. Personally, I'd choose the select. It is right at eye level and you will be looking at it every day. If you choose the lesser grade, there may be many pieces in the boxes that you won't want to use.

Hi colorado...

I have Crema Marfil subways from Arizona Tile, and I sealed them myself with 511 sealer. (wipe on wipe off) Whether they are honed or not, I don't know. I chose not to enhance them. They are very smooth and not pitted.

I think I used Bone too..but not really sure what the name of it was. The guy who installed the backsplash helped me with picking it out and it looked good against the tile. I think it looks like the darkest color in my tile which is not pinkish at all.

I sealed after grouting with Impregnator Pro. It's what my granite fabricator recommended.

OK - sounds good, must seal -thanks! Wow - KA - I forgot you used crema marfil - such a gorgeous kitchen. All your kitchens are what my little kitchen wants to be when it grows up!

But I think we did well within our small space and small budget.
