I have polished crema marfil(select, it has less graining so I think would show more) for my counter top in Masterbath and honed in shower and floor of bathroom. Love them and have had no problems with them at all. We bring coffee in bathroom, hairspray, gel, etc goes on counter and no staining etc. We have been in the house for 1 1/2 years since the remodel and so far so good. Also, I did seal the counter after being in 1 year. I did it myself took two seconds.

There are different grades of Crema Marfil. The ones I'm familiar with are the select, which has less veining and a cleaner more uniform look, and the standard which has more veining and a bit more color variation. I haven't seen one though with drastic color variations. Did you specify the quality of crema marfil in your contract or store? If it's much different from what you saw in the store I would contact them. You really should check the tile before it goes up ;-(. Are there many dark ones? If not maybe they can be replaced. Hope you can resolve it. Can you post a photo?

Yep, I'm so excited to see it come together...I absolutely love the glass mosaic tiles, and the reason I chose the crema marfil tiles was because they blended nicely in the background and didn't try to steal the show. Hence, the slabs should also be "in the background" so crema marfil it is. Hopefully I'll be able to post pics of the slabs installed by the end of next week!

Thanks for the pics Live Wire Oak! Looks beautiful! Do you happen to know the name of the tile you used? I would think it's either Corsican Creme or Palais Taupe?? I went to a local tile shop that carries Crossville porcelain to check it out this weekend but the salesperson was not sure which specific color would be considered Crema Marfil and the store did not have samples of the styles we thought it might be, based on the brochure pics. Part of the problem is that I currently live in Western NY but my project is in FL so the typical tile types and colors used up here are quite different from what is used in FL. I really like the idea of using real stone, rather than porcelain, but I know logically that the porcelain will be much easier to maintain and will cost a lot less - particularly since we have 2500 sq ft to cover!
