Corner Sink and Pull-Out Trash
Comments (16)Argh...just saw this...sorry for the really, really late reply. Our sink is the Franke Orca...I can't remember the exact dimensions, I think it's about 30" wide?? I remember that our cabinet sales person wasn't 100% sure it would fit in a 36" corner cab, so that's why we went to the 42". In hindsight, I'm glad we did as it is very roomy. The trash ended up on the left because the peninsula contains the range, and on either side I have drawers (one for dishes and one for pots and pans). Pots and pans are to the right of the range, dishes to the left. When emptying the dishwasher, I basically just pick up the dishes and swivel over to the drawer and put them in. It's SO easy it's almost disgusting. Yeah, I guess we do lean over the trash to put the dishes away, but it hasn't been an inconvenience. I don't really notice it. I'll try to pay attention tonight to see if I do anything different!...See MoreHelp me w/Trash Pull-out Location...please!! (Buehl)
Comments (5)I don't have pictures but... In the order of volume generated in our house per day/week 1. Recycle: we use 40qt + garbage can. We do not need to sort for the city. So all paper, glass, cans, plastic go into the recycle. 2. compost: We use 2 large green compost bins. We use bioliners so that they can be composted. one is for the backyard which only has fruit and vegie peels, and one is for the city which has meat and dairy. We scrape the dinner plates into the city compost bin. Most of the restaurants in the city does the same thing. The city picks up everything including used paper towels and pizza boxes in the "food waste" program. 3. garbage/trash: we use a much smaller garbage can, about the size of a grocery bag. if not emptied daily, it smells too much, ie chicken wrappers. So we don't need a large garbage can. I have the large recycle and the small garbage in the same pull out drawer. I have put the smaller garbage over the "shelf rack" so that the garbage is lifted up a little and closer to the top AND I store the garbage bags under the shelf storage rack. I keep the compost bins under the sink pull out. I could not find a system where all 4 boxes could fit in one pullout and NOT take up enormous amount of space so I lose storage. I had to accept that some under sink storage need be used for dealing with complicated garbage and compost. Hope this makes sense. If your city has a "food waste" program, you will find that you have very little trash that goes into landfill and you may need to modify the trash/recycle/compost bin system in your house if you chose to do the city compost....See MoreKohler Prolific sink vs. having space for trash pullout
Comments (9)Here are two more threads about double trash pullouts under ikea sink http://ths.gardenweb.com/discussions/2418644/trash-pullout-under-sink http://ths.gardenweb.com/discussions/2408460/how-do-i-fit-a-double-or-single-garbage-pullout-under-the-sink All the threads mention "instructions on ikeafans" unfortunately ikeafans doesn't exist any more, I found this page on the wayback machine but it refers to a part from the akurum kitchen system, not sektion: https://web.archive.org/web/20140717230116/http://www.ikeafans.com/forums/kitchen-planning/3326-whose-kitchen-had-deep-drawer-pullouts-under-sink.html...See MoreTrash Pullout - two 35 qt or one 50 qt (but lose drawer)?? Comments (2)I have had both I prefer two smaller. But we are recyclers in our house so one bin is for recycling the other is for trash. I like smaller because I think it keeps the stench away. Living in the south means heat and bugs. So keeping the trash moving out of my space is my preference for cleanliness....See Morekawh707
