A Not Too Formal/Not Too Modern Dining Set?
Comments (9)manyhosta, thanks for posting the items from Craigslist. The first post comes with a HUGE buffet/china cabinet, which I can't accomodate, but the second post is a set I think would work well. My initial impulse, however, has been to go with something new rather than antique. I just sold my dining room antique mission-style furniture that was lovely but wasn't exactly appropriate for my new space. I love antiques and still have a house full, but I'm trying to make my new lifestyle in a new home far more comfortable and practical--rather than "for show"--and my experience is that new chairs versus antiques are usually much more comfortable. Still, I think I'm going to investigate that second set you posted. If a new set, I'm willing to go fairly inexpensive. I'm single and dining room sets for me don't get a lot of heavy use. I've been looking at the Kathy Ireland Home St. Pierre leg tables and chairs. There's a good variety to this set--leg tables, pedestal tables, upholstered back chairs, or lattice back chairs--and I'm not yet sure what I'd select if I decided on it. I saw a sample at Macy's Home Store a few days ago. I think it looks both updated and traditional at the same time. It is made by Standard Furniture. Any thoughts on this set? I don't have a link but if you type in Kathy Ireland Home St. Pierre several online sources sell it....See Moreslab too small by 3"
Comments (19)I am toying with the idea of a butcherblock on the 30" to the right of the rangetop. It is right by the wall. There will be stainless steel, I think, on the wall behind the rangetop. I had planned to put the stainless steel down the wall 6" like Bluestar says. Then I was going to use a 3" x 36" granite for the small strip behind the trim piece. Now I wonder if I could somehow run the stainless steel down the wall 6" below the island trim AND somehow use stainless steel on the 3" x 36" piece instead of the quartzite. Would that look weird to have Sea Pearl, then rangetop with stainless steel, then wood top for the last 30"? Thanks! Peke My Sea Pearl does not have a lot of movement. I cannot imagine what granite to match it to. I don't really like the dark colors because I only have one window in the kitchen....See MoreSuggestions for clean, modern, light hearth slab.
Comments (3)Limestone would look great, if they could cut it like this. Travertine would look great as well. The edges are finished so you don't have a "raw" edge. Here is a similar limestone fireplace with the grain running horizontal. I liked this one too, with the contrast stone and the cut limestone....See MoreCabinetry brand for rift oak slab cabinets
Comments (44)@carii thank you for sharing your lovely kitchen, I would never have found Space.Theory without this thread! We're now getting a quote from them, too. I am also in Marin County and we're going through this same process of pricing out all our options for a very similar look to your kitchen. Would you mind sharing the information of the custom cabinet maker you got your quote from with the Shinnoki veneers? Thank you! Jess...See Morecawfeegirl
