Not me. It's been a while, but I was so happy to see my old kitchen go. But the difference is that it didn't function well for me and my appliances were all one foot into the appliance graveyard.

Yes, at the time demolition started last Nov I was sad to see our old 1950s kitchen go. But since the new kitchen is still only a glimmer in my eye, I'd give anything to have the old one back. We are putting a major addition on our house and it has gone far more slowly than anyone expected. The severe winter really created massive delays with all of the HVAC, plumber and electrical subs, delays in inspections, then more delay when things that didn't pass inspection had to be redone. OMG, I'm so sick of living in a construction zone. The best news I've had in the past week is that the AC, which this house didn't have, is now hooked up and that drywalling will start June 2. At least I hope so as that schedule has already slipped a week. Then maybe the work on the new kitchen will begin.

Oddly enough, the old oven which was built into the chimney wall, was still there until yesterday when the electricians pulled it out and dumped it. I felt a pang hearing about that. We actually used it at Christmas to reheat our dinner. It took twice as long as normal to warm up since it had to work in an unheated addition, this was before before we had the temporary heat installed. But it worked well for a 30+ year old oven.

It's not so strange... I thought the same way about our old kitchen in our previous house. Everything was in serviceable condition, but it all went to Habitat.

Our current condition, forget it. The cabinets were out of line because the subfloor was bad. The subfloor was bad because the joists were rotten. Bad wiring, layout, lighting, everything. Glad to see it gone, but not glad to have to haul all the pieces out to the curb for large item pickup.

Yup, when I renovated in 2012, I was in exactly your situation--everything worked and still looked pretty good but I wanted my dream kitchen. I also felt sad as I emptied the old kitchen. I found that donating the old kitchen made me feel better.

Nope, no teary goodbyes from me about our old kitchen. I didn't like it 20 yrs ago before it was completed. Good riddens. I gave up a lot to change the inefficient layout.

Fortunately the memories of my family in that old kitchen are still with me. I took a lot of pictures, which help to remind me how really bad it was. Not sad when it went at all, except for the Harvest Gold fridge that was still working like a champ. Everything else was completely shot.

I do remember how weird it was to come home from work to a room that was ripped out to the cinderblock.

Not me - I was thrilled the day I got home and it was no longer there (and it had been a darned nice kitchen - we had put redone the kitchen when we moved in 20 years earlier).

Initially I wasn't sad at all. I didn't think I'd miss a thing about my old kitchen. Once it was done I was disconcerted being surrounded by white cabinets and a dark gray counter, a cavernous sink and a big honking phallus of a faucet. I missed the comfort and warmth of the old shabby golden oak. Yes, I missed the old look, even the cabinet suspended from a soffit over the peninsula that was all gone. It somehow had comforted me.

I did get over it and I no longer miss the way my kitchen used to look. Since I kept the exact same footprint, old or new kitchen, I could function blindfolded and everything was still in its old place.

Yes, lots of family memories in our old kitchen - toddlers helping to wash the dishes, baking cookies with the kids, noisy board games with all the kids and their friends, roasting the turkey dinners, even the hockey gear stashed at the back door. However, now that all of it is gone right down to the stone walls, I am getting excited as it is being rebuilt. The new beam has allowed us to open it all up. The dry wall is up and painted and the hardwood floor has been laid with a partial finish on it. New windows and door have been installed. Wow it is amazing.

I'm feeling a bit sad to say goodbye to my kitchen and my whole house actually, as we are redoing every room in some way. Our remodel starts June 9th and I keep having thoughts like "this is the last time I'm going to ... or, only a few more days before I can't do this anymore". Some of my cabinet doors hang crookedly, my countertops and floor aren't level, and my floor has huge tears and is warped in spots. But I've lived here 21 years, almost my entire adulthood is in this house, and as excited as I am to spruce things up, I'm definitely feeling nostalgic the closer we get to moving out and starting the remodel.

Funny you bring this up. Our kitchen was gutted down to studs about 10 days ago. It was a fairly terrible kitchen -- the cheapest pre-fab golden oak, beige laminate counters, "almond" colored appliances with wood-grain handles (mid-80's vintage). The fridge and dishwasher were on their last legs. The layout was terrible -- range on an end, right next to a walkway. No external venting. One by one, nearly all of the drawer hardware had broken (cheap plastic mechanisms). But yet... I find myself weirdly adrift without my terrible, but familiar old kitchen. I can envision what the new space will look like and how much nicer it will be, but I sort of yearn for the comfort of what I knew, even if I hated it! I had cooked feasts for crowds in that old kitchen! I hope that the new space will be filled with the same amount of happiness, good smells, and comfort, as the old one was.

YES!! just started demo last Tuesday and I was sick all morning and got a little teary eyed. I have complained about it for years - it was there when we moved in 8 years ago- when we tore it out noticed it was from 1980s ! :) It is a very well built custom kitchen!!! solid wood construction etc. Felt bad tearing out what someone else spent so much $$$ and time putting together. I totally get it! ;)

I was thrilled to see my 1960 kitchen gone when I came home from work the first day of house demo last week. Looked better already.

What did I hate more--the tiny oven that took an hour to preheat or the sink installed 6" from edge of counter so I had to lean uncomfortably to wash dishes? Or perhaps it was the sqeaky white PLASTIC faucet?

Now that the asbestos people are done today that awful VCT tile under the carpet in every room will be gone too. Our home had no cool Mid-Century charm that you see in magazines, except for one wooden slat wall that will be re-purposed.

I did not live in this home for even a year before we started our project so I never had time to grow attached to the chunky, closed off floor plan kitchen cabinets with doors that don't close.

We bought it with a vision in mind so all the old stuff was just "in the way" in my mind of what the house was supposed to look like.
