SS sink and faucet...can I have ORB Hardware?

I would like some opinions...I have a stainless steel sink and faucet with my Uba Tuba granite, and Honey Maple cabinets and black appliances. My original plan was to go with ORB hardware and light fixtures. When I was picking out my tile backsplash, the Designer mentioned how I should stick with one finish. Most of the rest of the house has more ORB finish (in adjacent family room). Did I make a big mistake in picking out my faucet and sink? Can I mix finishes? Should I go with SS hardware and not worry about the adjacent family room? Anyone have any pictures? Please help!

I understand your concern Kemmc23. I had similar anxiety and I think I posed similar questions during the rehab. I finally got the courage to do as others here suggested...I did what made ME happy in MY kitchen.

The end result was a ss sink and appliances, with a copper faucet and copper trimmed backsplash. It has made me happy to see the mixture, even though it may not be "correct." I didn't have the nerve to do this until I received encouragement, though.

Whatever you select, I do hope you're happy with the results. Maybe someone will come along and photoshop a few pictures for you. Good luck to you.

I kept my old SS faucet and sink and added ORB hardware to the cabinets. I don't notice it at all, but I'll let you be the judge if it's a combination you can live with in your own kitchen.

Yes. It is done all of the time. But do not mix faucet finishes in the same kitchen if you are having 2 sinks.

HGTV just did a kitchen yesterday, with appliances that had an "Oiled Bronze" finish---They looked outstanding hope other appliances opt for these finishes--as not a good idea to buy all the appliances from the same makes--alto some could be panneled (built in). SS is a real pain to keep spots off of, particularly a dishwasher, that's why our new one has a panel. There are a lot of great looking bronze & Copper Faucets. Alto our appliances are SS--those that don't have panels, our faucet, a light fixture above the faucett and the switch plates are all copper. Like other folks say, U do what rings your bell but for me, a Copper sink with SS faucett--unh uhhhhh!! Gary

Do you have ORB anywhere else in the house? I thought about your situation myself, having white cabinets, black granite and black silgranit sinks. I wanted the hardware to match my faucets, though (and any light fixtures nearby.) I ended up picking a very dark ORB (the Grohe ORB faucet .... with Rejuvenation Hardware orb pulls/knobs/etc... also very dark... ) Since your faucets are SS...... I don't think it would stand out as much if your ORB was lighter. There won't be a faucet on granite situation like I had. With that said, I would suggest a dark ORB (closer to black ..... barely any brown tones...) if you have other ORB in the house. If you don't, what's wrong with a matte black?

fava, the backsplash is called light antique. they're 2x4. search for my post last week to see more pics. it came out really nice, but i may have to lighten it since it's warmer than i expected. i'm going to wait until my lighting is in before doing anything though.

kemmc, I sure hope that it's ok to mix because that's what I'm planning to do. I will have orb cabinet hardware as well as orb on my light fixtures. My sink will be ss and faucet chrome or some such. Stainless sinks have been so standard forever that I don't think it will matter.

I think it is fine to mix between finish of faucet and knobs/pulls, generally speaking.

I think the finish of the faucet should relate more to your countertop and any backsplash directly behind. The finish of your pulls should relate primarily to your cabinet doors and other door handle finishes or light fixtures in the house.

If your faucet and cabinet knobs/pulls are very close together and completely opposite, that could be a distraction. But for example dian57's kitchen above, I think all the finishes go pretty well, partly because she has a lot of neutrals so there is not a lot of "competition" in the room.

Yes, you can! Here are 2 reasons.

1. SS reads "neutral" -- we are so used to seeing it that we don't notice it unless it is doing something extraordinary (e.g., countertop). Neutrals go with everything. Your ORB will go with your black appliances, the ORB in the adjacent room, and the neutral sink. Dian57's is a beautiful inspiration/visualization.

2. (More important) It's your kitchen and you will be living there, not your KD.

Thanks so much for your thoughts. I can't believe how indecisive I can be. It makes me feel so much better hearing that others have done what I was thinking, and great to see Dian57's kitchen! I think it looks great together and I realize that I wouldn't have ever noticed the difference in finishes!
