Having granite fabricated for sinks with curves... bad idea?
Comments (8)I'm going with the 1 & 3/4 Silgranit as well. Like you, I worried - reading everyone here sing the praises of a super single, I really, really worried. But, you know, we have a single bowl in the kitchen right now...and...I don't like it. It seems that there is always a pot or pan in the sink while I'm in the midst of cleanup and more prep, so I can't use the GD easily. When we have scraps, I haven't done the pans and so on that get hand-washed yet, so once again, it's inconvenient to use the GD. In our remodeled kitchen, we aren't going to have a separate prep sink, so the garbage disposal won't have a separate area. Having the two sides for the sink works for me. I took my largest pan in to the store and sat it in there and it fit in okay. Cookie and jelly roll sheets, and lasagna pans, not so much. But that's not really much of a worry for me - they often go in the dishwasher anyway. All sinks vary a little bit, so if you decide that you want to change a sink for any reason later, you'll have to get a fabricator in to make the adjustments - you just can't go smaller than your current sink. Try not to fret too much. If you've thought over how you use your kitchen, and you feel that the two bowls work best for your needs, you're probably right. :) This forum is great for getting you to THINK about how you use your kitchen, but just because something works for many doesn't mean it works for all. How lucky are we that we have so many fantastic choices out there to suit each of our needs?...See MoreIs this sink a bad idea or a good idea for my kitchen?
Comments (9)Thanks for all of your thoughts! Mamadadapaige & Desertsteph: My off-to-college kids are my girls, and the lack of laundry floating around here now is a silver lining given their absence! But, my son leaving? Can't go there yet! He may require at least 10 minutes? Desertsteph - I'm 5'2". Glad to hear your shallower sink works for you. A shallower sink might be an answer for me. I don't like leaning over for an under-mount, deeper sink, but I DO like being able to keep dishes out of view when needed. I've never had a farmhouse style sink, but it seems that one would mean less leaning...? Drachiele - You make beautiful sinks, and I'm sure you've done lots of research on both sinks and faucets. Your explanation of how the aerator in a faucet would affect splashing makes a whole lot of sense. We are currently planning a Waterstone Fulton faucet on the main kitchen sink. Is there a number or something online that I look at that determines how effective an aerator is? Somewhat like how a stainless sink would be measured by the 14/16/18/etc gauge? Anybody have any thoughts on how easy/hard it would be to keep a solid granite sink looking good over many years?...See MoreAll white 9x11 kitchen, need ideas for granite counter tops and lights
Comments (37)I suggest doing your research on fantasy brown if you are considering it. It sounds to me like a marble. (Super white is another that is often billed as quartzite but is is actually usually marble.). Not that there is anything wrong with marble--I chose it for the ktichen in our last house, but I did so knowing what I was getting. Comments (33)Joe...also....the corbels under the granite were from previous countertop. There are 2 and the counter on the side with the crack does not meet it...they filled in gap with epoxy. I have a call in to the fabricator company...they also sell the slabs and installed. Am I being unreasonable about the crack? I can see it and feel it. I spent a lot of money for these tops and am also using as full height backsplash. They are supposed to install tomorrow which obviously will not happen until they come out and we discuss the counter concerns....See Morerhome410
