How to update your kitchen in 1 week.. LOL

Okay still some painting left to do here and there.. a ton of cleaning~ didnt do that yet~ so pardon the dirty stainless steel, dishes in the sink.

Yes, I have been non stop doing this project-

Some of you said that I needed to step away from the caffene.. LOL but I had to get this done!!!!

Tommorrow finishing up the beadboard in the eat in area of the kitchen. Finish painting and touch up painting.

I honestly cant say I like what I did to my kitchen, its very sterile and cold feeling and now I wish I had surely gone and gotten a really creamy paint instead of to me such a bright white.( marscapone) oh heck, it could be that I just stared at such a dark cozy kitchen for 9 years that its like where are my shades. I may end up Glazing it all. But not right now. Figure once I get artwork up, curtains, ~ I painted the walls wedgewood grey which really is very blue grey- man part of me wishes I just did the color storm. ERRR.. But heck it is what it is now.

Now to purchase new table and chairs, paint all the furniture in the eat in area. hehehe.. OHHHHHHH man whoops still more to do. But here is the main kitchen redo

In one week~ this is what I did-

Painted Cabinets, Remove old wall paper backsplash~ that was a pain to do, Add hardware, Add Subway tile, Add Beadboard to the island and some decorative peices, .... paint the room and eat in area. MNNNNN.. I feel like I am leaving out some things. Oh well..

Great job!!! Nice and bright! The beauty of white is that you can add color, change it and your space will always be updated as your taste changes. Love your rooster!!

Estelle, it's hard for me to tell 'cause I have difficulty understand the exact meaning of growing season. Is it the period of time a particular plant grows or is it the period of time you can grow something in the garden? It's ALL THE YEAR ROUND for both, I think... no resting period for us since we don't have severe winter like you do. The plants stay green all the time. They will bloom on and on and on... until you get sick of them (because the bloom quality is reducing and the plants become leggy) and want to pull them up and throw them away for some other younger ones, for example hollyhocks, or daisy, or marigold, or impatiens, or creopsis to name a few. And plants of all kinds grow faster there, too. So... if you want to be able to garden all the year round, come to Vietnam. You will always be my honor guest! Xuan (coming home soon)

Hi Bradleyo and to everyone! I found this forum last year when I lived in Ohio. I haven't had much time to log on here until now. I read this and thought I should comment on my experience with digging up tropicals from my yard in the middle of winter. Last year exactly around this time I sold my home in Columbus, Ohio to move to Kansas City, Missouri. I had to be out by march. I was really concerned about my trachy and others I had outside, in the ground, with winter protection over them with c7 lights for warmth. I waited for a day above freezing to dig and transport them into my warmer garage to pot for the move. I couldn't imagine leaving my tropicals behind to hope the next owner would take care of them. I dug everything up palms, lemon tree, cactai I had collected from the rockies and southwest, and other plants. Everything did fine with the move. I fertilized them in March, set them out in their pots and they did great. I'm still renting while house hunting so everything is still in pots here but doing great under grow lights. I say take all the plants you really can, pot them and give them a little extra care.

So sorry to hear of your loss. I think since DGM enjoyed gardening so much, she'd love the idea of plantings in your garden, in her memory. On a happier note...Happy Anniversary! Looks like you did some very successful shopping! I love 'one stop shopping' at community TS's...seems you find such a variety of great things. I have the same 'rant' with my GW. So many times I see items that are marked either the same price or higher than the store. Your candle holders were a great find..price and all, they were definitely waiting for you. Lovely cake plate and cute bunny dish. My favorite are the pretty For-Get-Me-Not plates. I love their delicate pattern. I'm thinking their name is also fitting to remember DGM by. I see great tablescapes using them and your other lovely dishes..which were also a great buy. Hope you and DH enjoyed a nice Anniversary with his favorite cake. jane

You guys are all way too nice! Sorry trailrunner, we've already had tons of friends calling dibs on the old coffee table, but it's destined to go in the master bedroom. I plan on putting a plasma tv in there and making a little hideout where I can put my feet up on the table and eat chips while watching House and Lost! Oh, I almost forgot. Here's my other two diaries. These first two are actually more entertaining as they were somewhat traumatic and thus fodder for humor. No photos in this one as my camera got lost in the move. owataqt - that is AWESOME! I love it. I like the Wedgewood Gray but if you are still having second thought about it in a month, it isn't a huge area and you could repaint it with the storm. I know you think the white it too stark right now, but it might grow on you. What does the fam think?

What a transformation! I am so impressed.

I think you might want to give yourself some time to adjust. I think you're right about staring at a dark kitchen. This is definitely stronger on the eyes, but I believe you'll come to find it bright and clean. The contrast will be lovely with your walls.

Something that impresses me the most is that 90% of the men in this world go white because they're afraid of color, and can't see any reason to change anything that's perfectly good, or why paint wood!?

Beautiful! I love the white cabinets and the wall color! Was it hard to cover up the dark paint that was on that wall?

Like others I think you should wait for a while after everything is done and accessorized and then decide. I think the brighter white cabs will make everything else in the room pop and I just love the gray on the wall. What is your kitchen floor?

A change that drastic will take a while to get used to. It all looks fantastic!

I love the wall color - what did you finally decide on?

You might cozy it up with an area rug. Here is a Dash and Albert indoor/outdoor rug that might work:

All I can say is GREAT JOB ! And I'm very glad to see that the cabinets do not extend to the ceiling...and look fine.

I love it! That looks fantastic!! You must have looked like the energizer bunny, zipping around that kitchen.

I really like the wedgewood, and I think you will like it better when it is not up against the brick color. Are you going to continue that color into the next area?

That's awesome! I love your white cabinets! That's awesome work in 6 days! You are super-woman!! If you decide it's not "warm" enough for you, my thought would be to paint the island the gray color of your walls. Great job!

The floor is concrete stamping and hardwood around that. When my dh built the house himself and no his isn't a builder. I met him when the house was just finishing up. He actually instead of flowing the hardwood through the kitchen in his mind it was here is the kitchen let's outline it..

He laid tile in it. But due to the fact we are a concrete company - he decided last year the broken tile had ton come up. Beleive me I begged for the hardwood to go throughout. But then we decided what the heck let's try the stamp able overlay in the kitchen. Kinda a testi..we always do stamp able overlays on slabs, lets test it on plywood. Its held uo good for the past year.

Iam just tickled pink I got to paint the cabinets and do my thing.

That is the sickest 6 day transformation I have ever seem! That is simply gorgeous! I have to say I know I am completely in the GW minority here to say I love that your cabs don't go all the way to the ceiling. Maybe because I had that look for many, many years and I just grew sick of it but I love that yours don't go all the way up.

Gonna have to wait for all that.

Still have to paint the furniture in the eat in kitchen area so all blend well.

WOW! That is amazing! When I looked at it I thought that you replaced the countertop too! I had to go back and look at the original picture of your kichen! Love it! I don't think it will look so sterile when you put something on the window and add an area rug or a runner in front of the sink. It looks like a whole new kitchen. I would love to see it when you finish the rest of it. Please be sure to post more pics.

Wow! You work fast! It looks amazing! But, please back away from the caffeine drip - you're making the rest of us look bad. Your kitchen looks so much bigger and brighter! Great job!
