Because you cabinets are light, I think I'd rather see a bolder color on the BS....maybe something that pick up on one of the granite colors, like the rust. The tile you show is a little washed out looking with the bold color of the granite.

Your cabinets are really pretty and everything is very soft. I think some contrast that would tie in the gray in your granite and the stainless might look great. What would you think of something like this?

Hey Gayle-- sorry I'm so late getting in here-- I've got a project of my own I'm trying to knock out quickly and working long hours to do it. I disagree with all the comments about the mosaic looking washed out. One thing about Jerusalem Gold is what happens once you hit it with an enhancing sealer. That stone will literally come to life, and I mean in a big way. Try it before you discount it and you'll see what I mean. It's the same with ANY limestone.

Thanks for your replies. I have to agree with Bill, the kitchen is a beach condo and I really didn't want anything to dark. I want it to be light and airy, maybe with a little more color than the sample that I have.

Bill do you think the small mosaic will be too busy? What color grout would you use?

I also saw a couple of marble tiles that I liked in a small brick. (Don't know the names though) Any other suggestions besides the Jerusalem Gold?

I like the idea of a sealer that'll brighten the stone and make it pop some. Can you try an enhancer on your sample? How do you think a small brick honey onyx would look?... Bill?

I'm glad your granite installation went well. I agree with remodelfla. Actually, I was going to suggest the same thing: picking up the other color in your granite like the gray. I love the jerusalem gold mosaic tile but I think it will blend too much with your cabinets.
I'm excited. I ordered my backsplash tile from Sonoma tilemakers. I'm doing a subway as my field tile and accent behind my stove in the tantrum rhomboid shape combination of glass, metal and stone. I hope the percentages of each of the tiles I chose gives me a nice blend. It'll take about 3 to 4 weeks to deliver so I won't have pictures until then.

I'm glad Bill mentioned the enhancer. I just tried to wet a few of the mosaics, it brought out a lot of color, but the wrong ones. It turned too gold, which I didn't like with the granite. I assume that's what would happen with the enhancer. I need something that has more of a beige/peach color.

Any other suggestions besides the Jerusalem Gold?

I hate to keep going back to my old favorite, but it's my old favorite for a reason. Look into Bottocino tumbled marble. It's got exactly the light "airy" feeling you're talking about.

If you can, take a ride to Creative tile on rt 35 near Shrewsbery/red bank, very close to the "The Grove". They have nice marble tiles (bottocino tumble, honed and polished, and others). They also have sonoma tilemakers, oceanside glass tiles, sumi-E tiles, Pratt and Larson and many others. I picked a subway stone tile that is called "durango", it is a wide beveled edge that gives the tile kind of a pillowed shape. The girl who helped me is Sue. Take a sample of your granite and a cabinet door and she will show you many choices.

Gail, sorry it is "Artistic Tile" not "creative". Not sure if they install, my husband will install it for me. Their prices depend on the tile you choose. Sonoma tilemakers are expensive anywhere you go, so I knew it was not going to be cheap. The best thing to do is to compare their prices with on-line stores or other local stores that carry the same products. Go to get ideas, get a quote, find out the manufacturer and then call other stores to compare their prices.

That's funny. Too bad you weren't in NJ. I need someone to help with all the choices when I go to the tile shops.

I'm going to look at the marble tiles again. I actually saw some marble tiles I liked at one of the shops, but didn't think I could use it with my granite. What shape/size of tile do you think would look the best? Maybe I could use that as a starting point.
