This is BS....Here we go again...
Comments (12)You know, the BM saying that sort of thing to the skids is exactly what made me very angry one day. I posted about it in March this year. SD13 started going on to FDH how he doesn't pay BM enough, and because of that they have to miss out on 'this and that etc'. FDH gave the usual reply; that he does pay BM child support and always has, but it's up to BM what she does with the money. They've had this conversation a million times over.. But this time SD13 did not leave it at that. She told FDH that child support is not even real money because it goes in the bank (??) and why doesn't he pay cash to BM? And all of a sudden I saw how the dynamics had changed, it wasn't just SD13 relaying BM's message, she had made it her own opinion and she was having a go at FDH. This made me very angry and I went off at SD13. How dare she accuse FDH of not paying enough money, she should know better by now than to listen to BM's crap, she shouldn't even be involved in any discussion about money!! I was angry and I went on about it. SD13 and SD11 stood there stunned for awhile and then they went to their room, got their mobile and called their mom, asking her to pick them up. Looking back now I understand they would've been scared to see me so angry, it never happened before (or since). I also understand BM coming to the rescue, even if this was exactly what she was after, causing problems at our home. We weren't aware skids called BM and she was on her way, and FDH had already calmed situation down. We were going to all sit down and talk about what happened. BM rocked up and FDH tried to explain we were dealing with it, no need to take the skids away. BM then called the cops and went hysterical. The cops assessed situation and had a talk to skids. They then advised skids to stay with us, but skids just walked out and got in BM's car, and they took off. It was awful. By getting angry I gave BM exactly what she wanted, it is part of the reason why she says these things to the skids, I'm sure. I just wanted to share my experience with you, you are not alone in battling this kind of nastiness. The best approach is to keep your cool, as you are doing. We also point out to the skids that we are not going to discuss adult issues with them, it's not appropriate. And one more tip; (it's been hammered to death on this forum, but for a good reason) buy the book Divorce Poison by Richard Warshak. It's very helpful and gives great practical advice....See MorePics Granite is in - Need some suggestions for BS - Bill
Comments (16)Hi Gayle, I'm glad your granite installation went well. I agree with remodelfla. Actually, I was going to suggest the same thing: picking up the other color in your granite like the gray. I love the jerusalem gold mosaic tile but I think it will blend too much with your cabinets. I'm excited. I ordered my backsplash tile from Sonoma tilemakers. I'm doing a subway as my field tile and accent behind my stove in the tantrum rhomboid shape combination of glass, metal and stone. I hope the percentages of each of the tiles I chose gives me a nice blend. It'll take about 3 to 4 weeks to deliver so I won't have pictures until then....See MoreProgress (Granite In), and, of course, B/S decision
Comments (8)efs: The kitchen place is right, maple is hard to stain well. It has hard and soft wood that take the stain differently, so it tends to end up with areas of light and dark blotchy color. The color may also vary depending on how smooth the wood is sanded (sanding very very fine can prevent the stain from penetrating the wood). There are several methods of dealing with this, with varying degrees of success: Pre-conditioning the wood so that it the stain goes on more evenly. Staining very lightly then following with coats of tinted lacquer. Sealing the wood bare and then applying color only in the lacquer coats. Various combinations of the above techniques. We knew this going in, and talked with our first refinisher quite extensively about it. He felt sure he could give us a good result, and did some samples that looked good, but the actual material he put on the cabinets did not look like the sample (to put it mildly - it was awful!). So, we sanded the cabinets back down ourselves and looked for another refinisher. What is now on the cabinets is a custom stain (I watched him blend the color myself). So, I'm sorry, but I can't tell you exactly what the finish is, but it was applied in several layers, and was sprayed, not brushed on. What I will tell you is to do your research and then try the methods you feel will work best on a bunch of samples. Be as sure as you can of the method before you start work on the actual cabinets. Hope things work out with your project....See Moresandesurf's AZ. finished kitchen (sans BS) TB granite.
Comments (16)Thank you all so much for your nice words. LOL boylanite. Yes, the London Bridge is there. It's a wonderful little lake community. As I'm a teacher, I get to stay there quite a bit, in the summer. I love it, even though it can get up to 120 degrees! During the school year, my DH and I go out about every other weekend. It's a 5 hour drive, that we've gotten very used to. sjmitch: The stools are from JC Penny. Funny story about those... The 29" were too tall, and the 24" too short. My DH cut down the 29", by 3". Now there perfect! :) So happy to hear nice things about the cabinets. After reading a lot on GW, I felt like oak might be out of style, but we love them. Guess my camera isn't very good, as those walls are NOT white, in person. Or maybe I should paint them again, a little darker?...See Moreellendi
