Well, first of all, congratulations on the impending arrival! I'm so glad you will have a beautiful and well-laid out space to cook in while you are busy with your young family. Your cabs, counter and backsplash look great, and I am sure you are already finding that the finishes you chose are forgiving when it comes to smudgy handprints and crumbs on the floor-- way to make your life easier! You did a great job! I hope you let us know about the baby on this thread in a month or two.

it turned out beautiful. i like that granite too. it is similar to mine from what i can see. i think the backsplash looks great too.

Beautiful job. You have so much counter space on either side of the range and sink. You are so lucky to have that little space for the refrigerator. Everything works so well together, the cabinets, the granite and the backsplash. Congratulations on the new baby and your wonderful new kitchen.

The space will look a little different when you begin to furnish the other areas and use your kitchen. I hope it all comes together for you. First of all, congratulations on the baby! Life will get a bit more hectic at times, but it will be love and fun for your family, not times 2, but squared. (hope that makes any sense) I remember that it was so fun to see our #1 welcome and love #2, and at 21 and almost 20, they're still close and good friends.

Your kitchen is SO gorgeous! What an improvement. Your layout looks wonderful...A lot of nice space just where it's needed. A lot of kitchen in not a lot of space. Great! Enjoy it! Maybe cook up a storm before #2 arrives. ;-)

Thanks for the compliments & well wishes everyone! I'll have 2 under 2 (at least until my oldest turns 2 in Sept) yikes! I will spend the next few wks preparing meals to freeze in my lovely kitchen though :)

Oh,& yes the dark cabinets are very forgiving w/little finger prints. Same w/the granite. I have to look for the dirt! In our last house we had black granite & it showed every finger print & smudge.

Once I get in the groove of things I'll be working on remodeling the bathrooms!

It was not *that* long ago that I was in your shoes. Two under two--until September when my oldest would turn two. Now they are 12 and 10. *sigh* Enjoy these precious years! Congratulations on your new kitchen, but even moreso on your newest (soon-to-be) member of the family!

Know you are glad to have this piece behind you before #2 arrives -- while these toddler/baby years are challenging, cherish them --- the obstinate teenager that sometimes shows up at my dining table can make me long for play doh and building blocks. Enjoy your family and your kithcen!

It is just beautiful! I actually really like the backsplash in all it's simplicity. The granite is lovely and I love the dark cabs (but I'm biased!). It was a great transformation.

My 2 kids are 21 months apart - yikes, and now we've got another on the way. Rhome is so right when she said the work is not doubled, but "squared". It'll be hard, but will be awesome in a couple years when they will be playmates. Congrats and best wishes for a healthy baby. Now you have lots of freezer storage for all those meals friends and family will (SHOULD) bring over :)

What a lovely kitchen. I really like the cabinets. We have the same (maybe) hardwood floors and I all along have been thinking that dark wood like yours wouldn't go with them, but now I see it will, and looks great. Can you share what your hardwood is (brand, line, and color, if possible)? Thanks!

mybrowneyedgirls, the floors are just oak hardwoods stained w/2 coats of provincial. i almost went alot darker, but all the reviews i heard said the darker floors were more upkeep (show dust easily). i also think they would have been too dark w/the expresso cabs. i'm very happy with them. they're not too light, not too dark. i did notice that the stain varies depending on the wood. upstairs we kept the orig. hardwoods from 40 yrs ago & just restained them. the provincial is a tad bit darker on those. i think they're pine.

What awesome granite, and I find it hard to believe that you didn't like your backsplash; it seems to compliment the granite well. You made some great choices. I would have been hesistant about the dark cabinets for the reasons you mentioned too, but after seeing them they look PERFECT. Your layout looks much more functional than the old. I can't believe the transformation. Best wishes for the new baby, enjoy that kitchen!
