Is Costco the best price for Vitamix?
Comments (16)GWlolo, did you make a choice? My Costco will have demos beginning October 7th, is there a reason to wait for that, or to go to a Whole Foods demo? I don't think I'm going to need the dry jar, I have a grain mill. I do think I want the 750, partly to look good on the counter, partly because the incremental weekly cost over the 5-7 year life is negligible. The reconditioned 750 is available for 519 on the vm website. GW gives and GW takes away. VM wasn't remotely on my purchasing radar (either was a new broom.....hey, GWlolo - wasn't that your idea too?) and now I have kale in my fridge insisting that I need one. I figure I've saved far more money on hardware, backsplash tile, and the undefinable costs of the poor choices I would have otherwise made were it not for all the "free" info/advice/support here. But dh is really hoping there isn't a GW consensus on a new vehicle for the garage, from which one enters the laundry connected to the kitchen.......See MoreTwo new toys! Actifry and Vitamix
Comments (9)Good evidence that your DH likes you. Those are serious toys. Take the blender for instance: On another thread, people talk about using a hand stick blender for making soups or smoothies. Let's take a look at the reality: A hand blender has a low power (300w) motor running at less than 16,000 RPM with a 1.5 inch blade. A counter top blender has a 500w motor running at 20,000 RPM with a 2 inch blade. A Vitamix has a 1,800w motor running at 38,000 rpm with a 3.5 inch blade. What makes a blender effective is the maximum blade speed. The faster the blades rotate, the better the food gets chopped. It works out that: The hand blender can go up to 80 miles per hour no-load, with load probably 40 miles per hour. The typical counter top blender can go up to 119 mph n-load, with load probably about 60 mph. The Vitamix blender can get up to 350 mph, and maintain close to that speed under load because of the high power motor. You will find the Vitamix doing wonderful things for you, more than just soup and smoothies. How about making your own flour from grains? If your model does not come with an acoustic shield, you may want to figure out a way to cut down the noise. It can cause cumulative hearing damages, especially around children. The Vitamix is very noisy. dcarch...See Morea new look for my 'new to me' kitchen--help!
Comments (4)The pics are kind of tiny so I can't see all he details. Is there a backsplash? I'm thinking you could do a white for a backsplash and white walls and a dirtied yellow on some walls. This would make your beige cabinets look darker and richer. The whole monochromatic look could be punctuated with colors in the accessories. Use some accents of natural wood. Go with chrome or brushed nickle for the hardware instead of black. Is there any way to fit an island into the space? The island could be of another color than the cabinets. The counters seem to bother you and you can't replace them right now you say. A lot of people have had good luck painting their counters. I've never tried it but it is said to have good results and it wears well until they can be replaced. Off course you could paint the cabinets instead too....See MoreI got a Vitamix for Christmas!
Comments (12)What a cool gift Amck! I, too, got a Vitamix. It wasn't a Christmas gift though. DH had been promising me one from the manufacturer rep when the rep used one to demo at a show. And it finally arrived! It's a Pro 750 model. I haven't used it yet as I've been in the midst of hosting several parties, finishing kids school projects, installing light fixtures, and completing gift making and shopping. I just re-arranged my lazy susan today to give it a permanent spot. I'm so excited to try it this week now that things have settled down. Post what you make with it! I really wanted a wok burner for my CC rangetop, but DH couldn't arrange it in time from the new rep. I did, however, get the Ina Garten "Make it Ahead" cookbook I've been wanting. Little DS kept it in mind apparently. So sweet!...See MoreSaraKat
