We got a GE induction range in December and absolutely love it! Works great and it has even won over DH who was set on a gas range. We got the freestanding version.

I've also read a lot about the Advantium models. I am trying to find room for one in the remodel. I would definitely go for the 240V models as it seems the 120V ones have issues. If you hop over the the appliances forum there are some great threads about Advantium, and I've been asking about them there. Also a good thread over there about the GE induction range.

Is that a full-ht cabinet right up next to the range?

I debated between the electrolux and GE induction range and finally choose the
electrolux which was installed last week. I love it!! The oven bakes to perfection - if I bake a cake and the recipe says 45 minutes at 350 - the cake is finished in that time frame. The induction burners are wonderful - 5 minute learning curve - once you figure out how to turn them on. (No kidding - I kept pressing the little round burner circle instead of the on/off button.). The electrolux oven has a lot of nice features that the GE doesn't have. If you live in NJ, you can try the electrolux out in Barry's in Bridgewater, NJ. I mad the 50 minute trip and baked cookies there. That sold me on the electrolux. However, the GE got the top score in consumer reports for induction ranges.
I think you will be happy with whichever one you decide to buy, but as there is so little info out there I thought I would stick my two cents in so you would know that there are options.

rhome: Oops. Thanks for pointing that out. I goofed. There is supposed to be a 33" drawer cabinet and landing pad between the full height cabinet and the range and a 33" drawer cabinet on the other side of the range. I will have to rework my sketch and my math also! Darn.

avidchef: One of the reasons we are picking the GE is because the design is the same as the Advantium speed oven which would be on the same wall. I really like the Elux too and I have been going back and forth between the two. My only requirements were that the oven has to be self cleaning and convection. I'm easy! My DH is the chef in this family.

We are wondering if it's overkill to have the slide in range AND the speed oven rather than the range and a plain old microwave.

I fell in love with the look of the elux slide in induction range. And the blue oven! Then 2 things happened- our range died before the remodel and we had to replace quickly, and I read multiple reports of the trim on the elux being an issue. Seems it separates from the top and some people have had it affect the ability to open drawers next to it. Even on the showroom floor.

Given the very specific install specs with the elux slide in and the fact that everything in this house is slightly unstandard, I didn't want to risk the heartbreak of getting it here, finding firmly attached trim, and not being able to install it with the current counters.

But from the reviews I read elux and the GE are the best choices, at least as of late November for ranges.

I read that the Sears induction range is made by Elux. I wonder if that one has the trim issues. I read reviews that discussed the trim issues but if I remember correctly those reviews were from a while ago and I thought they might have fixed that issue by now.

You have a tremendous advantage in living with this basic layout already, but I'd suggest drawing it carefully to scale anyway. Also, that will help spur thoughts that might be useful on this side. What sort of things will be stored in the non-pullout 24" deep cabinet?

Have you given any thought to putting in a window on the stove wall since it's on the exterior? Something low below the cabinets, or high, above?

Has DH had the opportunity to fondle soapstone yet? :)

BTW, you're showing the same dining space also, so it's safe to assume it's also working very well for you. Do you have a table for two against the wall, or? Is there room to bring in a comfy chair for relaxing and chatting with the cook? I like your idea of bookcases backing the counter. Since books are one of my very favorite mood creators and decorations, I'd do glass doors there.

Rosie: The stove wall is not an exterior wall - it's the office/den which also has slider to the patio (the two rooms form an "L" with the patio outside both of them. So no more windows are possible on that wall.

lol about the soapstone. There are three samples of soapstone on my kitchen counter and DH is not caving yet!

Re the dining space - I think we might put a table there instead of keeping the "internet cafe" which is way too cozy. We have a raft of Cesca chairs in the attic and it would be nice to find a place for them in the eat in area. I keep visualizing a stainless steel table in that area.

I would flip your pantry shelves and pullouts, plus making the pullout cab 36" and the pantry shelves 12". The pullouts should be against the wall, and if you do 12" pantry shelves, you can have it open at the bottom instead of the side (as oriented in the picture). I would also do the pullout cab with a swing-open door and rollouts that come out individually, NOT the one that has the door attached to the rollouts. This will make everything much more accessible and easy to view.

Also - the most important/convenient space is between the range and the sink. Can you put the Advantium above or below the counter, then use the layout you posted on 5/29 at 20:10? That had a lovely 66" stretch between the range and sink. Your layout posted 5/30 at 9:16 halves that, which is a shame.

Have you ever actually used the eat-in area with a real table and chairs? My old kitchen had a similar peninsula layout to yours, but with just about 102" of width in the dining area. Everyone constantly bumped their chairs into either the peninsula or the wall whenever they sat or got up. I can't imagine that an area of only 84" would be comfortable, especially since you most likely need to access the slider every once in a while. Just my opinion, of course, but I urge you to mock it up to see if it will work for you.

Another thought about the eat in area- we have a very small space there as well AND we added bar stools too at the end of our peninsula(everyone hangs out there while I cook so it was a must do for us). It was very tight. What we did was create a banquette into the wall so that we gained a few inches. I still have to move the bar stools to the other side of the penisula when hosting a large group at the dining table, but it works much better now.

CKGM: Would you please post a photo of your banquette - it sounds like something we did in our kitchen when we lived in NJ and I liked it very much.

blubird: The previous owners had a fairly large table in there but for all I know maybe they never used it. I agree with you that it might be tight in there...in which case I will keep the casual chairs and side table. Guests seem to like sitting in those chairs when we cook dinner. The biggest problem is there is no surface to work on right now - let's say if I want to sew something I don't have a place to put the sewing machine. I thought a real table might help. The house has a formal dining room and also we have a table and chairs out on the screened porch so really there is no lack of space to eat. If there is no kitchen table it wouldn't be a tragedy.
