How do I know how tall my base cabinets are?

My base cabinets with laminate counters measure 36" tall and my porcelain-tiled island counter is 36 1/2" tall. I think my laminate counters are 3/4" thick. I measured in 2 places - the front to the drawer opening and inside the cabinet to the drawer opening. If I did that right, that means my base cabinets are 35 1/4" high, which means that when I put granite counters on, the whole deal will be 36 1/2" high like my island counter.

However, we're going from vinyl floors to wood, which adds 3/8" (judging by elevation change at hallway door to kitchen) so then the counters should be just marginally higher (1/8") than my existing laminate counter. The wood will go under the DW and refrigerator but not under the cabinets. We'll still have plenty of clearance to the counter for the DW.

Did I do my math correctly? I hope so! I prefer 36" counters, not 36 1/2" (I'm 5'3-1/2") and there's probably no easy way to trim my existing cabs. TIA!
