For Bonnie...questions on window treatments

I have admired your window treatments, especially the ones in your dining room...Where did you get your short rods and how did you decide where to place them, as to height above window etc...any tips would be appreciated.

Thanks eagertopaint! I got the short rods on sale at JCP & with coupon code the price wasn't bad at all. I just draped the curtains up around the window until I had the length & width where I wanted them to be. I didn't want the drapes to cover the windows but to frame the windows. Most of the drapes (say 2/3 or more) is hung over the wall & alittle bit over the edge of the window . You just have to play with the drapes alittle & see what you like best. My LR & DR ones are mostly over the wall & alittle over the window. That way it doesn't block our lake view out the front windows & we have sunshine to light up the rooms. At night if the husband is out of town on business I can pinch them together in the center & secure with a plastic clippy thing & no one can see in either. Hope this helps! Bonnie

@Melndo The walls are Benjamin Moore Rockport Gray: https://www.benjaminmoore.com/en-us/color-overview/find-your-color/color/HC-105/rockport-gray?color=HC-105 Our window is north facing as well. There is a large Japanese maple near the window so we don't get a ton of light there. I have the floor lamps, two table lamps and a light on the ceiling that isn't in the picture to make sure the room gets enough light. We actually use this room as a music room. There is a piano on the wall that isn't in the picture. Hope this helps! Glad you like it. :)

I would extend the fabric/rod beyond the window to open up the space as much as possible. a Textured Linen panel (matching the wall color) on rings for easy open/close. Limit the decor, a small room would benefit from trim paint the same color as wall color. a simple top down/bottom blind for privacy and light control Blinds.com offers great options.

I still stand with Jilly’s first example of cafe curtains that are placed about 3/4 of the way up the window. If they would be on rings you could very easily open them during the day and close them at night. I would want light whenever possible. Hopefully the neighbor cannot see in during the daytime.

Bonnie, thanks so much for your help with the window treatments....I hope I don't sound too dumb. Did the rods come that length or did you have to cut them to that length. All the ones that I see in the stores are much longer, say 28-48 inches....How did you get them the short length? I really appreciate your help.

HI eagertopaint, No I ordered off JCP the short rods so they came the length they are. They should still sell them like that I would think unless they are discontinued. check out JCP website & look down on the sizes at the bottom of the page. it usually lists the different widths when you scrool down the page. I just purchased 14 in. rods from JCP to do a similar treatment on my dining room window. I mounted them so the fabric just covered the trim, so not to block the view of the pond in our backyard.

NOTE: This room is not finished. I am planning to add a decorative fringe to the bottom and side of these panels, so they aren't finished yet! I just wanted to share a similar window treatment.

Bonniee...thank you for your help. I found them on the JCP website after going to my local JCP store and the lady there told me that I had to order them....You were a big help..

Thanks for sharing Bonniee!! I really love the way your curtains and area rug work together!! And am anxious to try the rods on a window I have that's about 92" wide. Right now I have one long rod and the space above just looks kinda funny there...so thanks again!!
