Thanks for the advice. I have ordered some swatches from Pottery Barn of their Peyton linen look drape. Hopefully one of the colors will work. I also looked at Country Curtains but didn't see anything that had the linen look that i am seeking. Does anyone know of a good source for drapery panels with that are linen )or look like it?)

We are not window treatment people either, but have started to add some as we've reno'd/decorated a few of the rooms in our house; two bathrooms and our office. They really do help to finish off a room. That said, we're not covering our kitchen bow window, or the DR bow window, though I might consider something for the DR window at some point--just for the window panes themselves, not to cover the whole bow-unit. We used Hunter Douglas' Designer Screen Shades in the Roman Shade style (ours are mounted inside the frames becuase of our window style/frame depth). The shades are very clean-lined and range in sheerness. With the sheerer weaves/fabrics, you can see outside with them down and they allow a lot of light in.

My house had the original 1980s drapes. I also never need to cover my picture window for privacy or to block light (I live in Seattle), so I just left them off. I love how open and bright it makes the room feel.

Since privacy is an issue and you still want to optimize light and view have you considered Sheer Shades? You said you would like to be able to "show them off". What do you mean by that? That you want them to look nice from the outside? on this picture you can see the windows on the right have the shades pulled up but closed and the window on the brick wall they have them down but have them adjusted open. I have used these before and they are extremely versatile. You can get them in different colors and in either light filtering or room darkening. You windows are floor to ceiling so it will look something like these. In your case if you went with shutters I would opt for version without the tile bar like in this photo. For some real texture woven shades would look nice. You will get filtered light control is they are unlined and total light control if they aren't. However view wise they will be the most limiting. These are unlined With the first option and the last I would definitely dress the windows with drapery panels in conjunction with the window coverings. For shutters its optional. I like the look of drapery panels as a finishing touch but shutters can stand on their own.
