norasnews...I have a question...please help me!

The painters dropcloths was sheer genius! I am also on a strict redecorating budget, and have 2 queen anne chairs that HAVE to be recovered.

I hope you don't mind a few questions...

Who made your slipcovers (an upholsterer, a seamstress?) and what sort of labor cost are we talking about? (I hope you don't mind as that is a nosey question) I know cost varies from region to region, but a ball park would help me immensely! I don't know where to begin finding someone to do this for me, so I'm turning to you...the expert :)

Your room looks wonderful, by the way. It must feel good to have turned it into a great space on a shoestring budget!

I'm not noranews but just wanted to toss this out there... another Gardenwebber covered chairs in mattelasse -she got them for a bargain at TJ Maxx, or Tuesday morning or something. They were gorgeous!

I agree with David. The only thing that frightened me when SB hit home, was that I had just shared cuttings. But like I mentioned before...I have kept old and new plants and cuttings so far isolated...that I really had no sweat that I passed it on. But the THOUGHT is just there :-( So newbies just make sure that if you ever have a SB plant and it was close to others...I would not share cuttings at least for 1 year of growing again. To make sure it was just one plant and has not affected others. I mean you will not know if the virus lies dormant somewhere...but at least you are sure that SB is not active. Turning off the water valves is something that should be done with all washing machines. The rubber hoses deteriorate and having them burst, especially when no one is home, is a major claim on homeowners insurance policies. That said, I don't turn off my water but I have a PEX hose that is similar to what is now being used instead of copper pipe for house plumbing. There are newer valves that allow you to open and close them with only a quarter turn and also some washing machine valves that operate BOTH hot and cold valves with a single lever.

Oh my goodness, such wonderful advice here. Thank you all so very much! Well, I got up the courage and put three colors on the walls..... and none of them shouted 'the one'... grrr. Good thing I didn't just pick a chip and buy the paint! DH and DS are no help, they commented all the colors looked the same to them. No, No, No.... can't you SEE that this one has more gray, this one has more brown, this one is too light..... :) olga d - I have to cover a Hunter Green wall in the dining room. Yikes! I am hoping for the good coverage they claim. ainsley (and cat mom) when I googled the Aura paint, I came across a message board where that very same discussion was going on. One poster 'hated' Aura and said it showed roller marks on her ceiling. A BM dealer posted that it was not meant to be used on ceilings. cat mom, I am sorry, I don't really remember the reason she said that. september home - thanks for the directions. I read some of those on this other board in defense of Aura from the *haters* it was ALL due to not following the directions and painting in the old, familiar way of re-rolling a newly painted area. It is a caution I put to the test today :) I started my samples swatches with an el-cheapo brush.... huge mistake, when I tried to clean up the look, I made it worse. I will not make THAT mistake again :) OT question September - do you live in Indiana or near by? I remember a poster with "sept" in the name being very helpful when I had to choose my cabinet paint and my GC was using Porter Paints. If it was you, Thank you! I can't find my old post to see if it was you or if I remembered to thank you for your kind help.

I believe you posted in the African Violets group by mistake. These are Amaryllis varieties. Beautiful plants, but you might receive a better answer to your question if posted there.

Thanks for the responses, ladies. I had seen those chairs covered w/matelasse, and just loved them! I am looking to cover my chairs probably in a chenille so they blend in with my couch.

Still looking for information on who to contact regarding getting the slipcovers made :) so any input in that regards is welcomed!

Hi! Sorry I was gone all day!

I thought they were reasonable. (Considering a slipcover at target was 80.00!!!) I used a seamstress... and it was her BRILLIANT idea.. when I told her I was looked for the cheapest but still chic look!!

She charged me around 350 for couch and 225ish for each chair.. the smaller a little less I believe.. around 700 for it all..

She came and cut and pinned here, then sewed offsite.. they have dressmaker details i could not have added, skirt, zippers, seams, piping.. etc

Oh, I had to wash all the dropcloths first. to soften em up.. and she ironed them before she brought them back....

I just read the matelasse thread.. boy how did I miss that one!! I wonder what the cost per yard worked out to be, that is really pretty!!

I forgot to mention, my seamstress told me to buy the runners 4x15, at a local paint store since they were a prettier creamier color than the cheaper ones. That bummed me out a teeny bit, cause home depot had a phenomenal deal on regular ones... 2 for 9.98..

I bought those and used those for curtains in my family room instead.
