I love white beadboard with a color on the wall above -- whatever color makes you feel uplifted, or energized, or calm, or whatever you want to feel to start and end your day on the right step. When you determine what you want to feel, you can google color psychology, then pick your favorite.

For a vanity, my favorite is a sink set into an antique piece of furniture.

I'd check Craigslist for the furniture and the mirror. You can see it in person before buying, save money, meet nice folks and make them happy, and your money goes right back to your local economy.

A 1930's tudor sounds dreamy. I hope you'll post pictures when you're done so we can all oooh and aaah over your talent!

I love the idea of using an old dresser! I just looked online and found one that would look great. But, my concern is that when we remove the current vanity, the floor will be damaged underneath and the dresser wouldn't cover it up. We don't really want to have the expense of repairing the floor. Ummm. Must think about this.

White beadboard with a dark stained vanity sounds pretty classic.

The trim throughout our house is a creamy white, but I opted to use a bright white on the new bathroom beadboard, crown, and trim.

I'm showing pictures of my bathroom that is similar to yours (new construction, not a remodel, though). My dh wanted a claw foot bathtub (and a blue room), and I always wanted to put a sink in a dresser. We found this sink/cabinet combo already made, so that made it easier. I painted the bead board an off-white because I didn't want the tub to look dirty (it's an original 1921 tub with some stains on the inside). This has turned out to be one of my favorite rooms in the house :-)

thanks guys! I'm glad to hear the stained vanity will be okay with the linen white walls. Robbi - your bathroom looks great. Where did you get the vanity? I didn't even think about the tub looking dirty. I guess that is another reason not to do true white. My tub is old too, but it could use reglazing.

We picked up the vanity at an antique store. It came with the mirror you see over the tub and the bench. I was just looking for a dresser to do myself, but we saw this and loved the design, so we bought it. I had a friend sand blast and repaint the outside (it was in really bad condition), but leave the inside alone.

Oh, I see. I thought you bought it new that way. Funny because the "dresser" I mentioned that I saw online was actually the exact same style. Thought it would work well. Guess I was right. Just don't know how bad the floor will be.
