Toilet Review- American Standard. Tropic. Concealed trapway.
Comments (2)I think I looked at that one somewhere along the way... but it only came in two-piece? And my #1 criteria (aside from a concealed trapway) was that it be one-piece. I've seen pics of your bath remodel on the boards before... and have said what a beautiful job you did. I really love all the details you chose. Our home is an 1890 Victorian, so I can really appreciate the intricacies of working in a space that old!! Comments (33)I have 4 very recent (last 3 years) toilet purchases, from a Jaccuzzi- not worth discussing, to a Kohler (Ingenium, I think), AS and Toto. I think one must distinguish old from new, 5 gal flush from 1.6 from even less... The latter 3 are all excellent. Differences are notable from water spot size, to noise, to clean bowl. BUT I would still buy any of those 3 again, the AS cadet and Toto Promenade are the most similar in function, but the Toto is much more quiet, for certain. I find that MaP thing a little cumbersome to read... antss- yes, studies must show their data: study size, confounders, statistical significance of results, etc., ;-). Where is the p value?!?! And to note, in allll the yeeaars of using CR, which has been very helpful, one does need to understand that the rating is definitely cost related- best value for the dollar. I have purchased things that were top of the list, but definitely not the top product. I have learned. They don't always prioritize the same as I would, and it can be difficult to pick apart that subtlety....See MoreToilets: Kohler Persaude or American Standard Clean?

Comments (21)I eschew wring reviews prematurely, especially for items I have yet to receive or services yet to be rendered. I like to put products to the test before I form an opinion. With that as a backdrop, I shall provide my opinion on the Costco Water Ridge toilets I purchased over a year ago (March 2018 or earlier). I bought a one-piece toilet Costco carried at the time because of three reasons: (1) I was remodeling a bathroom and I really liked the sleek design of the Costco toilet (simply put, I thought it was quite pretty); (2) the price ($149.99) and 5-year warranty were quite inviting; and (3) I needed to replace the highly inefficient, water-guzzling toilet in place at the time. After it had been in use for a month, I liked it enough to take a chance. II bought and installed four more to replace the remaining inefficient toilets in my house. After at least a year of experience with these toilets, I give every single one of them a 5-star rating. All five have functioned perfectly and have exhibited no problems whatsoever. After reading about the problems others have encountered, I'd like to dare offer a few tips. - Press buttons straight down with both the index and middle fingers. Albeit I've not experienced the problem, a firm straight-down push should help prevent the mechanism from sticking. - Press only one or the other button (not both) until the button is fully depressed (half-hearted and "simultaneously dual" flushes don't work well). - Avoid placing toilet paper around the bowl walls unless you flush immediately. Otherwise, the water will creep up to it and get it wet. Wet paper sticks readily to the sides of the bowl. Even the best toilets cannot wash toilet paper down after it is stuck to the bowl walls. At best, the part in the water will tear and flush while the section stuck to the wall will stay stuck. This happens even in maximum-suction commercial toilets. It's simple physics. - Keep your kids from squatting over the opened top when using the toilet; it'll get loose in a hurry. (Yes! A person actually told me her child was doing that!) The top was made for sitting, not squatting. - During a multiple-discharge session, flush after each discharge. Your nose will thank you...and the bowl will clean better....See MoreHogette-gw
