Comments (32)Kathleen, Thanks! I am so glad I got the trees when I did! (those mercury glass-look ones). Thanks so much for the oasis tip! I put mine on the mantel quick for a picture. And when I do it up for the holidays, I will use the oasis! I appreciate your tip!!! Karen, The tinsel tree, I am glad you got one! The tree was 1/2 off at Michael's when a lady came up to me and said are you getting anything not on sale (in the line at the register cause she wasn't going to use it) and I wasn't, but said 'I can if I have that coupon'! She smiled and gave it to me. So, I left the line and went and got the tree. So, I paid $4 and some change for it. I am going to spray and glitter some star anise spice (looks like a star, pic attached. I got it for $3.49 some time ago for this purpose, smells like licorice) and then put them in that tree for ornaments and a bit of bead garland too I think....See MoreShare pics of your favorite past Christmas decor ideas?
Comments (11)Lol I like everything, but given it's a Victorian homes tour I will stick to being somewhat traditional, lots of sparkle and glass. I love that blog. I have quite a bit of silver including some huge trays so I a, going to pull those out and copy her a little :). I love the plates, but they appear to be resting on the branches which tells me that she does not have a five year old red headed devil running around her trees :). I do have 40 plus china tea cups though.....that would be a fun theme on the dining room tree. With lots of white lights and silver...crystals....ok now you have me thinking lol Thanks!...See Moredecorating for christmas

Cut them in half, dampen with water just enough to make them stick to the window glass, and then spray with artificial snow in the can. You could also use white shoe polish, I find it doesn't have that smell and fumes, and it's very easy to wash off. It doesn't flake off like the fake snow either. They also make paper lace and you could try that, too. Use fishing line to hang some pretty snowflakes from the top of the window. They move slightly in the smallest breeze. Hang 2 on one string, 3 on the next, keep alternating. Use a wooden trunk or box, to display some antique and vintage toys, or place them under a tree. A train is always wonderful, a small picket fence, create a curtain of lights from mini twinkle lights to hang behind the window display. Use tinsel garland cut in different lengths and hang a Christmas ball on the end of each in the top of the window. Use a chest or dresser to display items in the drawers. Or an old baby carriage or cradle. Have the children in your family help make the classic paper chains. String popcorn and cranberries. It'll be great! Comments (41)I always decorated our tree in a theme. Always had it planned well in advance. Then we started having kids. I still tried to decorate the tree in a theme. It worked for awhile. Then the kids started going to preschool and bringing home all of their crafts. Each one I cherish and keep. They started putting them on the Christmas tree. I moved them to other places. They kept bringing home more. And more. And more. Year after year. And year after year I kept giving each one a special ornament that they might like on Christmas Day. I never really thought about why. It just seemed like what you do. Their 'bought' ornaments would go on their trees in their rooms the following year - preserving my perfect tree. So we found a work around. We would decorate the tree my way and as each day went by they would add their stuff until Christmas Day our tree would be an explosion of kid craft. Well our kids are now 11, 8 & 6 and last Christmas while we were decorating the tree it finally hit me. I watched as they pulled their ornaments out of boxes and recounted the stories of how and when they got them to each other and to me. It was perfect for me. We saved all of the Christmas craft ornaments for the end. I take a few pictures and then they put all of their stuff from years past on the tree. And It Really Is Perfectly Perfect ! A perfect mess of all of our likes and memories....See Morelynninnewmexico
