Comments (50)Thanks guys! wallycat...I do love the Dacor rangetop. The heat output is terrific - everything is very even. I like the way it looks (we didn't want something as industrial looking as the Wolf), I like the way the knobs light up blue when the burner is on (helps me & my kids remember to turn it off)...all positive. prairie-girls...the fabric is Waverly. I know it is discontinued, because when we needed to make the valences for these curtains (the rest of the kitchen had them already from several years back), my curtain place couldn't get the fabric. However...my husband let his fingers do the walking around the internet and found the fabric easily. And it was cheap. I want to say Ebay, but it might have just been a fabric sight. Do a google image search for Waverly yellow and blue fabric and you'll probably find it pretty easily....See MoreFrench Country / Country French (?) decorating
Comments (14)Hi Sharon, I LOVE French Country decorating and there are lots on this board who also love FC. Parma42 is also a huge FC decorating fan. I agree with what the other posters have said about following your own vision. The blue you are describing for your cabinets, along with the SS appliances, and the dark hard wood floor would be sensational, IMO. It does beg the question though of what you would do about your countertops to make everything work together? But that is something that can be determined later. I can't tell you the number of times I've said "I'm going to do X" to my house and my extended family stares back at me as if I'm crazy. Half the time whatever I planned looks fabulous and and a quarter of the time, it's so-so and a quarter of the time it's disastrous. I'm okay with those odds! Not everyone (not even a designer) can get everything 100% right every time. Decorating and designing a home takes practice and a willingness to try things and sometimes make a mistake. It's the best way to learn about what really works for you in your home. I'm dying to see a picture of your room and a picture of the blue finish you are putting on your cabinets! Please post pics if you can!...See More3 Cabinet Colors, Country French--Thoughts & Pics Please
Comments (9)Your builder will probably say no because he's a builder working with stock, and is afraid if you don't like it you'll claim he damaged your perfectly good brand new cabinets. But any carpenter, handy fiance, or even the guy doing your trimwork should be able to take it out easily and sand the edge. But really, you could just remove the door altogether and get the same effect. The builder doesn't even have to know!!! (shhhhh...!) Also, there are tons of people in blogland who remove doors and drawers and replace with baskets. One example to help you: go to "The Lettered Cottage" blog and in the search box type buffet table and see one of millions of tutorials on this kind of thing. Layla (at the Lettered Cottage) does cottage-y country and beach cottage looks but it could translate pretty easily into French Country with different fabrics....See MoreHELP! And please show me your beadboard cream colored islands!!
Comments (11)athome, since we have the same granite (althugh your has more of what I call the 'rivers' & mine has more of the 'islands') AND I have beadboard, it's only appropriate that I bring out some more pics ;-) I used beadboard in my backsplash for 2 reasons: needed to save money, but also I have beadboard wainscoting on the 2 walls in the kitchen that remained original, so this was a way of marrying the two sides. What I did was pick up the colors in the granite with a glaze - in my case I was picking up the darker cream & using a copper glaze. Your kitchen is much sleeker than mine, but because the granite has such a lovely mix of colors, it might be an option to use a base color & pick up another w/ a wash. The colors in these pics do not reflect the coppery bits in my granite very well, but you get the idea......See Morehappy2bme
