Comments (41)"Unfortunately, in too many professions (including mine), there are a host of untrained, inexperienced people willing to work for very little, and they muddy the market and can make it very difficult for the seasoned pros to earn a decent living." People have to start somewhere, as in any field. Most people can't hire the best, so there is a large market for those who are less experienced. The real problem is the "host of untrained, inexperienced people" who charge us high, professional wages simply because they are in a certain field, so charge the going rate regardless of their skill or experience. That is not the job ladder where I come from. Around here, you will also find GC's (expensive!) that employ cheap untrained laborers. So you do not get what you pay for. Now, if you're talking about paying even more than what people already pay (outrageous), not many people make the kind of money they could afford them anyway. The average American family income is only about $50,000. The real problem is that the construction industry really needs to have educational requirements, certification and strict regulations in place to stop all the nonsense that goes on. It really chaps my hide to hear people say we don't, or are not willing to, pay enough. I've heard this plea for more money a number of times recently. And by the way, I know highly educated people who feel the same way about this and wonder why some of these clowns are making more than them....See MoreLooking for a great BM Red Front Door color!
Comments (17)My son wanted a deep red for his room two years ago--in fact that's where I got my screen name "Colorfast."= So...we found the best reds to choose from were Ralph Lauren. We had a RL color mixed into a Devine paint. Our paint store had done our favorite Red before and already had the formula for it. Yes, it's a little dicey asking for a color match, but people on the paint forum said RL is known for great colors and less-than-great paint quality. So essentially, you would not be the first. I believe we got the RL Hunter Coat red but also really loved Dressage Red (and some of the other Thoroughbred collection) and a few of the Island Brights. Note that the Paint forum advised me to do a GRAY primer over my already white-primed walls. With a white primer, your red will need coats and coats or it will look pink. Check the Paint forum. I don't know if your door is raw wood or already painted and they can tell you best....See MoreIs BM Black Tar more of a charcoal or does it read black?
Comments (11)LOL....I use Safari, maybe that is my problem.. Well, I am going to complicate this whole post.. SW Pewter Tankard was my first choice for brick color but painter and I preferred to use Aura by BM.. The Rockport Gray was very close but when I went to BM store yesterday to get River Silt(which they did not have) swatch, they color matched Pewter Tankard in Aura perfectly.. So now I am feeling more confident about color matching. Here is the sample of Pewter Tankard, flanked by Bracken Slate on left and Mopboard Black on right.. At top is a small swatch of Wrought Iron. You are correct. Not considering something more colorful..I would like a dark gray....Wrought Iron might work. The Mopboard Black looks grayish next to black....See MoreShade of purple for front door help!
Comments (23)Some examples of painted sidelights (and some transoms)^^ you don't have much in the way of trim: think about painting all of it the purple, or doing the trim in the house color to make it disappear. The "step" under the door I think should be house color. ^^i love how the whole door, side lights, and casing are one color. ^^here casing and "step" are house color ^^ in this case all of the fancy trim is highlighted in a trim color, but not having trim, I think yours should be purple...See MoreSunnyCottage
