I can't speak for the others because I've never had them. We have faux and real wood blinds in our house. I prefer the faux to the wood. The wood on ours has chipped and turned yellow over time due to sun fading. The Faux ones do fade but still look better than the others.

I've never used cellular blinds. I have white faux wood blinds and I like them. The romand shades I have are bamboo on the patio doors and I really like them too. I don't think you can go wrong with any you listed. Which ones to use would just depend on the other furnishings in the rooms.

I have faux wood blinds and I hate them. They get dusty and it's not easy to keep them clean. It's not easy to get behind them to clean the window either. When I put them up all I see is dusty dust and that's even just a day or so after dusting them. I want Roman shades. You can vac them with a small brush when they're down. The blinds you have to get in between and behind. Bleck.

I have cellular shades in some of my rooms. They are easy to vacuum. We started with very good quality roller shades in our house. I switched out some to cellular when I realized that the top down, bottom up option would be good. I'll change out the rest as we redecorate.

Excellent selection of colors and textures. We need privacy - neighbors are close but sometimes I worry that they have way too much of an 80s vibe.

Just curious - what do wood blinds go for? My cellular shades in windows that are about 40 x 60 were $350 a window.

I have wood blinds and I do like them. I have roman shades in my bathroom and love them as well.

I also have wood and faux wood blinds. They look great, but they are a huge pain to keep clean. The faux are a little easier to clean because you can get them wet.

We have both wood and cellular covering our windows. I prefer the look of the wood/faux wood, but the practicality and versatility of the cellular.

Our cellulars are top-down/bottom-up and automatic (previous owners installed them, bet they were pricey!)and I love those features. However, I think they do look kind of dated. It may be because they picked an off-white color. Maybe another color/texture would be more updated.

The wood is a major PITA to keep clean. I usually vacuum them with the soft brush attachment and then wipe them down with a soft, damp cloth.

If I had nothing on my windows, I'd make Roman shades or curtains myself, or maybe get some of the bamboo Romans from Overstock.com.

We have cellular shades in the two kids' bedrooms, have had them now for 11 years and they have worked well. The kids have them raised halfway most of the time to allow light and air flow.

We have wood blinds in our room, and if we could I would change out the blinds in the boys' rooms to wood or faux wood blinds, for two reasons. One, you can have light control without completely blocking the view out the window, and two, you can have air flow and still have light control. With cellular blinds or roman shades you block the view and the air flow when they are down, plus to me the rooms feel closed in.

I don't care for the top-down cellular shades as I don't like the visible strings - makes me think of spaghetti straps on a dress. LOL But then I am weird about those kinds of things. So, for others, that is an option for air flow but still having privacy with cellular shades.

Our family room downstairs still has vertical blinds that are 21 years old, not the plastic backed ones you seen but all fabric. I still like them, tho at one point I was going to replace them with curtains. But these are so practical for both light control and air flow, and down there it is mostly DH and the boys sitting and watching TV so style is less of an issue.

The windows on the main floor of our split level (LR/DR/kitchen) are basically uncovered. Valances on the LR and kitchen, panels on the DR that are never closed on swing-arm rods. I hate windows being covered so that I can't see outside - kind of defeats the purpose of having windows. Privacy is really not a big issue for me. You wanna look inside my house, feel free.

Eliza did you ever get your window treatments? If not, here something else to consider. My coworker has them and they are great. So beautiful and clean-looking that I went online and found them for myself. I've ordered the wicker color shades.

Hi robinst Happy Thanksgiving!

Mine haven't come yet. They should be here any day now. My friend has them in the lighter color and they are so pretty and clean-looking! I can't wait for mine to come. She and her husband cut them down to size to fit the width of each window - I think the roller is like a light aluminum hollow roll that you would cut with a band saw (is it a band saw? I don't know what you'd call it but it's the type of saw you run it through really quick). I suppose a dremmel would work, too. Anyway, the shade itself is simple to cut but your scissors should be long and very sharp to get a precise cut. Three of my windows are 27" so I lucked out and won't have to cut those down to size. Two of the larger windows I will have to cut to size.

I will let you know how it goes next week when I get mine. Maybe they'll come tomorrow. I can even take pics while we do it so you can see.

I really like the way they go up and down - with the continuous chain on either side. It's smooth with nothing dangling. I tried hers out and they work great.

Also, she has hers installed so that the shade spills over the top of the roll as opposed to the picture in the link that shows it coming from the back of the roll. That way you don't see the mechanism on the side at the top.
