After living with the (boring) neutrals that were in the house when we moved here 15 years ago, we just finished painting all of our upstairs rooms and I love all the colors. Hard to pick a favorite, as each was chosen to go with the light and furnishings in that particular room. What I probably love most is the Atrium White trim and how it plays nicely with all of the somewhat intense colors we chose. All have LRVs around 30: Louisburg Green, Van Cortland Blue, Richmond Gold, Summerdale Gold are all lovely. In the bath, which gets lots of western light and has bright white fixtures and shower curtain, we went more intense with Philipsburg Blue. I couldn't be happier.

shhhh..I'm telling you, that midsummer night will work, and you will beyond love it. It will carry the chocolate brown/sea-like Yarmouth Blue combo into the bathroom. It is not a color to use on large wall area, but it IS THE Color to use on small wall areas. It has an effect of making windows and the views like paintings, gives a bathroom a rich warmth, luxurious surround in which to, say, bathe with candlesâ¦. My broker asked me to take a look at her kitchen as they wanted to paint the end third of it. She had in mind a neutral taupe or beige. I went over to take a look, and immediately saw a chocolate brown. Two thirds of their kitchen is entirely made up of - yes - medium brown cabinetry and the appliances virtually NO wall area But the back third is made up of large windows and a French door to the patior, overlooking a golf course, and then winds around to a rear door and entryway. They have a dining table in the window at the end of the kitchen, with a wrought iron chandelier. Well, they went for it (she and I, on our own and purely by coincidence, both picked the Midsummer Night. We couldn't believe it!). It is absolutely, positively stunning. They love it. It totally enriches everything - their paintings, the chandelier, the view, the window trimâ¦and it contemporized the look of their cabinetry., which they were very happy about. I had their friends calling me to ask if I'd come to their houses after they saw the chocolate brown in their kitchen. I don't mean to sound so pushy. It's just that I know it looks like a bold color, i.e.: risky color, but my point is, it isn't. I strongly suggest getting a sample and painting one wall, i.e.: around the window, to get a feel for it. And again, crisp white towels and a splash of color with a nice fake orchid or something similarâ¦you will love it.

I know the law about all greens go together, but not all blues and greens go together, so the green you MUST have will be the green that looks best with the greens you have in place, the green of the countertops and the green of the floors. You must take that into consideration more than the Van Courtland blue, which should, if necessary, be the color you change because it does not have to match some permanent structural item such as flooring and countertops. Bruton White would pair beautifully with your flooring. It is very close in Value to Gray Owl but contains less innate greenness, moving it further back into the Yellow Hue Family where it sits at 95.33° in comparison to Gray Owl’s location of 107° on our Color Wheel. As always, it still needs testing with a large chip or moveable sample in your space. In balanced light it will appear as a bright, greyed ‘knocked-back‘ member of the Yellow Hue Family. It may show a suggestion of green in certain light, due to its location and in some spaces possibly even hint blue, but certainly not in every setting. And it will be less inclined to either of those moods in comparison to Gray Owl, which sits much closer to the Yellow-Green Hue Family. Bruton White has a point more Chroma than Gray Owl which makes it that bit less gray too. So I think it would be a great choice with your flooring but I can’t comment on how it might pair with the cabinetry as I don’t recall seeing those, sorry. 🤔
