Because the red plaid is exactly like my old sofa, (what another coincidence!) I just don't see the patterns and material for a bathroom. Especially in the summer.

If this is the shower you use frequently, wouldn't the steam hurt the fabric?

You can buy really nice shower curtains at low prices.

Have you thought about getting a blind in a darker color?

I like the idea of painting the cabs. The black would be gorgeous!

I have cotton fabric shower curtains used with a vinyl liner and have no problems with the steam. My upstairs guest bath has a matelasse fabric curtain, with a liner, and does just fine. I would do the small houndstooth for the lower portion of the curtain, with the floral on the valence portion. Then use the floral again for the window curtain, a la my3dogs style. Brown cabinets. Of course, you probably knew that's what I'd say.........

I wouldn't worry about the floor color, it's light and neutral enough that I think it will look fine with those fabrics.

I like the floral for the bathroom...I am a floral person though...Anything you do will be beautiful. Love all the fabrics.

I'm a little confused. Is your bath currently the green walls or the cream? You have quite beautiful window treatments in each pic. In the green-walled pic, you also seem to have a darling matching shower curtain.

To me, it seems that either of these existing wt's would work with the colors and ambience that the bedroom has. Since they are in different rooms, they don't have to exactly match, just have a similar feel and color-way, imo. In fact, I think it would be more interesting if they didn't match the fabrics in the other room. Seems like a lot of money to spend when you already have wt's that are simply gorgeous and very compatible with the bedding. (Just a thought!)

I do think painting your vanity will be gorgeous. We've already seen how you brilliantly transform things with paint, so this vanity will look marvelous too, I'm sure.

Framing the mirror and adding vintage-looking hardware will also be wonderful touches.

I really like the wt in the cream colored bathroom (also confused here). I think the shower curtain is also nice there. I like that it is simple to not fight the wt's pattern.

I have to admit, I am not feeling the love for the plaid.

Hmm... I wasn't worried about the steam. I figured they'd be fine. I like larger shower curtains and feel that the store ones are more squatty looking. A taller curtain helps to raise the eye up.

I've wondered if my bedroom was going to feel too "winter" like to me with all the plaids but I don't find myself wanting to change out fabrics like that. Only decorative items.

Sorry guys for the confusion with the green bathroom. I wasn't very clear. That's my other bathroom and I only posted it to try and show how I would use the two different fabrics. One for the main shower curtain and the other for the valance on the shower curtain and the window valance.

I bought the current floral valance and shower curtain a few years ago. I don't dislike them but it will bug me that they don't flow better with the fabrics of the bedroom. I bought this stuff when I had to have something NOW. Impatient. My Mom really likes it so I'd give them both to her. It will make her happy and me happy to see they're in use instead of packed in a box somewhere.

I was leaning more toward the floral over the bosporus. I really think the brown paint (like the SW Woodsy Brown on my stairs) will look good on the cabinets.

I have a bath similar in size to your's and since I wash the shower curtains often, I use a liner and a cloth curtain on the outside. Like I said, you can buy the most beautiful cloth shower curtains online at probably half the cost it would be to buy the material for it.

I do have a thing for florals in bathrooms though. I also love wallpaper in bathrooms! IMO, wallpaper is what makes a bathroom beautiful.

I like the floral with the small houndstooth pattern for the body of the curtain. A blackish brown for the cabinets would be really nice. I think it would look fine with the tile as long as it is not chocolate, needs to be a blackish brown to work, IMO.

Shee - I love custom shower curtains also and agree - most store bought are too skimpy (usually 72 x 72)). Too short for sure.

Unless you have some sort of moisure problem, I don't see a problem. In our master bath we have a linen shower curtain - no problem. It's not machine washable, but because the curtain is not actually used (liner is), it rarely needs cleaning.

My main concern would be if the fabric(s) might be a bit heavy for a shower curtain. I would go with the lightest weight of the fabrics. You could even use a solid as the bulk of the curtain and the print for valance/window treatment.

If if were you I think I might order a sample of the paisley too - i think it would look great in the mixture!

I also think nanny2a has the right idea - floral with small houndstooth. Since you have similar toned valance/shower curtain right now, I don't see why your new fabrics shouldn't work in your space. Your flooring may be gray but it looks warm toned in the picture, so I think everything will look great. I was also going to suggest a dark brown cabinet, but the black towel in the photo seems to go really nicely with the flooring.

Great idea tina to pull the paisley into the space. I had the same thought : )

Oakley - Yeah, I need some florals somewhere! I wish I had a powder room. I'd use some fun wallpaper in there.

Shannon - The brown in houndstooth fabric is a dark black/brown. The floral is a rich, dark brown. I held both against my deep brown (SW Woodsy Brown) stairs last night they looked really good with it.

Tina - Neither one of the fabrics are heavy actually. The small houndstooth is much thiner than the larger houndstooth pattern that I'm using for the pillows and bedskirt. The floral is thin but a weird texture though. Kind of nubby feeling on the back.
My other shower curtain in the green bathroom is pretty heavy. The main curtain part is pretty thick. The colors look nicer together IRL, btw. The wheat base gets washed out or something in photos.

Southernfrenchie- The towels are actually navy in the pictures. They don't really go super with the current floral valance but it's towels we have for now.

Tina & Southenfrenchie - They're saying they don't have that paisley in the inspiration photos anymore. That it's been discontinued. They sent a differnet one that looks nice. (see below) I'm sure I could find another one cheaper somewhere else. A few posters said they thought the paisley int he book was Waverly paddock shaw but looking closer I think it's similar but not as much red.
Anyhow, where do you guys think I should add the paisley?

After I totaled up my shower curtain fabric cost and added it to my total cost I about fell over last night. I'm concerned if I don't order the fabric right now they'll be out later. I saw the floral was discontinued on some sites. I was thinking of using a different fabric for the base since I'll need a lot, to try and save some cost but this is probably one of those things if I don't do it the way I truly want, I won't be 100% happy with it later.

If I do the shower curtain and window valance right now I'll have to wait to paint, new curtains for the bedroom, and bamboo blind. (Don't know that I would've been able to do "all" those other things either. Maybe would've been just the curtains and blind.) I also don't have a bedspread to use with the new pillows. I held it up to my tan vellux this morning just for colors ideas and it looked very nice. Going to get a tan coverlet or whatever you want to call the main blanket.

Then I was thinking to myself this morning...maybe I can use some of the leftover fabric for mats in art. Just saw that on the Holly Mathis blog yesterday, Tina. My wheels are spinning. :)

Tina, maybe I'm missing something, but my shower curtains aren't short at all. And definitely not "skimpy." Looks like Shee and I have the same size tub/shower, so I still stand by what I said that there are some beautiful cloth shower curtains out there.

shee- I see 2 paisleys in the above photo. Which is the one you would be able to use?

Southern- I realized that after I posted. They sent me some additonal coordinating fabric which is the whole top row. I was talking about the bottom paisley but all those are in stock from Nell Hill's. The top paisley is the Waverly Paddock Shaw in "chocolate" I believe.

Of the two paisleys, my preference is the red one on the bottom. I like the one in the top row too but I feel it would compete too much with that floral - and to me the floral is definitely the star of the show. The small houndstooth definitely complements the floral beautifully. I guess there isn't anywhere for the paisley to go, unless you'd like a fabric runner on your toilet tank ; )
