Need BM colors for Trim, Doors, and Kitch. Cabs

I need to repaint all the doors and trim in my house as the builder used really crappy paint that is now full of stains, spots, and scuffs that won't come out. Need a white that will go with everything. Also want to paint my cabs white or off-white. Please recommend the PERFECT white or off-white that will work in every room!

I like BM the best, got some test quarts in Linen White and White Dove (semigloss) to try tonight.

Also, I know cab painting is an artform in itself, but any hints on getting good finishes on trims and doors? The guy at BM told me all I needed was a liquid sander and no primer.

jockewing, go to the Paint Forum -- there are threads on cabinet painting written by the pros that are immensely helpful. Good luck! (that paint store guy you spoke to is, shall we say, not Faron or brushworks :))

We have BM Paint on all our walls but chose to use white Cabinet Coat on our trim. I love the finish and how it goes on. I used to buy it from Ace Hardware but our local Ace store closed so I searched the Cabinet Coat website and saw it listed as available at our Benjamin Moore store. My great BM paint guy said that Benjamin Moore had acquired the company that makes Cabinet Coat so they have the ability to get it too - it just takes a week or so to special order it.

Do a search for "Cabinet Coat" on the boards here and you'll find lots of posts. Cabinet Coat is self-priming (although I did use a good primer on our oil based trim and would probably do the same on kitchen cabinets to ensure adhesion) and self-leveling which means it leaves a beautiful, even finish.

deedee99 - you're thinking just as I was thinking! Tieing in the exterior door colors to my interior! I'm lame but I was thinking that most of my accent colors inside are the blue/ green colors w/ all of the interior walls being black, grey or some shade of white so I was thinking of my exterior doors as the outside accent that would continue into the interior accent colors. When I got home I pulled out my BM deck and was thinking maybe Caldwell Green HC124. A very dark green w/ lots of blue undertones.

I would use whatever trim color you have in your other rooms in your kitchen. I'd do Linen White on everything attached to the cabinetry. I have BM Bone White cabinets, but have kept the previous owner's Duron Shell White trim around the doors and windows in the kitchen and throughout the entire house. I like the continuity. I have Linen White walls in a couple of rooms and in my stairwell & hallways, first and second floors. It's a nice, soft white. Your cabinetry will be beautiful, I am sure! Would love to see a pic when all is done.

Hi Lori, Thanks for responding! I really don't know what colorI would be the perfect color. I would like to have a color that "lightens" the room, not make it feel "darker" like Powell Buff. I have thought about a complementary color to Hepplewhite Ivory, then tried whites, I know gray and white and popular now but I don't know how grey would look in a darker room. Would white or gray wash the room out? I have sample of Honey Harbor, Rich Cream, Aura, Antique Lace, Creamy White, Man on the Moon, Sugar Cookie ,Buttermilk, Mayonnaise, Edgecomb Gray, Sparkling Wine, Albescent, Mountain Peak White ,Mannequin Cream ,Vanilla Ice Cream & Windham Cream. I was thinking about looking at Ivory Tusk, Palace White, Philadelpia Cream ( however, I think that will be too dark) Honey Harbor seems to look the best with the Hepplewhite but when I put a few samples around the room I started to wonder if it would be darker also. Just a little lighter than Powell Buff but still too dark. You see, I don't really have a direction!

Along the lines of Oatmeal, but with less yellow I suggest you look at Shaker Beige HC-45 and Grant Beige HC-83. Along the lines of the grays you have tried, did you also look at Chelsea Gray HC-168 or Graystone 1475 (is lighter than the others)?

This is the second house that I've done all the trim, ceilings, doors,etc. in BM 925 Ivory-White (from the Classic Collection). In this house I've done all the kitchen and bathroom cabinets in this color also. It's white but a bit creamy, not overly ivory but not bright white either. Perfect!

Well, I tried a little of the White Dove and Linen White on some of my trim and doors - god are they filthy!! The White Dove is really bright and clean looking, the Linen White a bit creamier. In this low light house, I'm thinking White Dove might be the way to go. Any pics of these colors?

Hi
I just used white dove semigloss satin impervo on new trim in my mbr and mb and it looks great. It is a nice crisp white with no undertones. sorry no pics. the camera broke last year and I havent had time to replace it. I painted the kitchen cabs in cabinet coat 3 years ago and i does have a nice hard finish. but, the finish looks flat and doesnt have the semi gloss sheen of the satin impervo. i have seriously been thinking of repainting them.

I think OrganicSmallhome loves the White Dove. Maybe do a search. There was a pic of her kitchen shelving around close up.

We've used a beautiful creamy color, from Olympic paints (Lowe's) called Crescent Moon. It's not white and I worried a little when the painter put it on the crown and other trim but I paired it w/ BM Pittsfield Buff for the walls in the master bdrm and I love it!

I just want to be sure that I pick a color that will work with anything. I really don't plan on changing the colors once I've finished painting everything.

My kitchen was done in BM White Dove because I saw paddytc's kitchen and definitely felt the need to copy hers. It is gorgeous. I attached the link below. Mine is in the kitchen blog, too.

The only issue I have is that the ceilings are "ceiling white" and make the cabinets look a little dull. I need to get the ceiling painted this winter.
