What are your interests? Man-caves are often built around a theme, or colors drawn from a favorite sports team or even a work of art that you like and want to hang.

Black can be great, or very 80's (think shiny lacquer platform beds ;-), so don't just think in "colors" but also in style.

And, who do you want it to be appealing to? Your buddies or women? Those two will have different ideas.

first off thanks for helping me i really appreciate it i couldnt do this alone haha. Bestyears i just have a normal low lying bed with a wood frame and a duvet set that i can change the color of to match the rest of the room. And ill also be able to post pictures but just not tonight i should have them up by tomorrow afternoon.And Finz2left me using the term mancave might be misleading sorry about that. What i meant by man cave was that im just going to be spending a lot of time in the room studying and whatnot.I dont intend on having a main theme to the room. I do,however, plan on putting posters on the wall as well as some shelves.When it comes to whom im appealing to id have to say it would be to both buddies and female buddies haha.Im going to try to avoid appealing towards one gender, but rather to all who come inside.I would like it so that my room is both pleasant to look at as well as cozy to hangout in.

I never really thought of that but yeah thats could work. I just wouldnt want the room to scream colts if you know what i mean. But i have no objection to a crisp white and blue. If i do chose those colors what part of my room would be what color.

Okay, so once we see pictures it will be easier, BUT, you should start with your bedding first. Pick something you love, and worry about wall colors to go WITH the bedding. The other way around makes it far too hard. You will want good bedding, nice lighting, a comfy chair or small loveseat/futon. Seating can be had on craigslist for a song!

To reply to your suggestions i just have to say that as you can see from the pictures i dont have much room to work with:/ The room used to be my sisters room and thats why the colors are all flamboyant and also its a lot bigger than it appears in the pictures. I need the big bed you can see in the pictures because i am an above average height so switching to a smaller bed isnt possible. On the bedding i can basically get any color duvet to throw on so it shouldnt be a problem, but i do enjoy the blue i have now or i possibly a nice beige. And as for a love seat or chair i dont think one would fit because im already going to have an office chair in my desk. Usually when i accomodated guests there are only a few of them and we just usually hangout on the bed and i have one of these

and a bean bag in addition to the chair so a love seat isnt really necessary. From the pbteen website i found most of the rooms appealing because of the sheer setup and colors that are lacking in the room im trying to put together. As i said before im just mainly concerned with the colors of the walls matching the furniture and the molding/doors.

ps: in the pictures the bookshelf and that little tv stand arent staying in my room theyre just there from my sister. The only thing thats staying there from the pictures is the bed.

Okay, I know you say it is mainly an issue of paint color, but in any kind of decorating, that is really the last issue. You want your paint to go with your decor, not just the floors and molding. I really would start by 1) cleaning out everything that isn't yours or looks girlyn 2) get rid of the drapes and get blinds or a tailored window treatment. 3) pick a few accent pillows/shams that you really like for your bed and some photos/art you want to display- even your guitar! 4. THEN, pick your paint from there. A golden tan, a deep red, and even some brownish grays might look nice with your woodwork. But, they have to coordinate with what you want to do in the room. The PBTeen rooms look nice because the coordinate everything. Now, for you, it is over the top perhaps, but think along those lines. Even check out their paint colors once you know what your "accessories" will be. Heck, I even think a nice plain throw rug would help, a lot!

Hey i did what you said with my room i home it can help you better help me haha. And i equally like the two bedsheet colors but if i stick with the beige im probably going to get a darker shade.

to anyone seeing this for the first time im just in need of coloring advice for the furniture, bedsheets, and paint to all match the wood. I was kind of thinking maybe doing beige bedsheets, blue walls, and black furniture. What do you think?

do you think the blue and black would contrast the light rich color of the wood? And if you dont what kind of blue do you think would look good. and also i think im gonna just go with a plain duvet cause one of my mates has a really nice room that doesnt have a printed bedding and im kind of going for that kind of look, but thanks for the suggestion

Are you still stuck on a wall color? I would get some samples of BM white water #2120-60 or a bit darker 2120-50 silver springs. If you want to do a blue and black room these are nice blue/gray paint shades. Once you get a wall color in thing might get a bit easier.

Me again, the black furniture would be ok as well as a plain duvet but I would not do beige.I would find a warm pop color to blend in all the warm woods so they don't look like they are on their own competing. The blue/grays, woods and black would look nice with a pop color.After you get your walls done get out all your shirts and see if you like any of the shades with the wood,and other colors.

Just to digress a little do you think the blue and black is a good idea? Do you know of any other wall colors that would go good with my wood and black furniture?

I also just looked at the two paint colors you suggested and im a big fan. If you dont think there are any other colors that would go better with my room then im probably going to go with a blueish grey like that as opposed to the kind of dark blue i had in mind.

I just redid my son's room in a blue gray wall color. He has carpet and offwhite trim but his dresser and side tables are a honey oak color and he has a black desk.

We went with a bold orange for the duvet which looks really nice with the wall color and the wood tones.

As you can see the blue/gray looks nice with the black desk also.

I tried searching for stained trim blue walls but didn't get a lot of hits. Here's one photo from the seach that features a much darker blue.

I think the blue/gray could work very well with the honey oak. There are several expert photoshoppers on here. Why don't you post a new thread asking for photoshop help and list some of the paint colors you are interested in?

I've just begun to teach myself using GIMP and am very much a novice at it but here's a quick look. Unfortunately, the paint color I chose is much brighter than you are interested in.

I recently redid my DS's rooms (he just went off to college). What we did was to work with a black and grey color scheme. It gave it a more sophisticated look, very masculine. For his dorm room we did more of a navy and white color scheme (his furniture there is all oak). Again with black accents (desk chair, stacking storage cubes, etc). He recently bought some posters to put up. I think a nice neutral wall works well for allowing you to personalize your room with artwork, posters, bedding, etc. The paint we used was Benjamin Moore Revere Pewter whioch I highly recommend. It looks fantastic with black furniture accents. And for his curtains, we used painter's dropcloths; very inexpensive with a coarse feel to it. You room would look nice with an area rug (perhaps a geometric print?)

If you will be having friends hang out in your room and are a young man living at home (I assume), I'd also look into a mini fridge. And, as I told my own son, there is nothing more welcoming for friends (esp. of the female variety) than having a neat and tidy room that doesn't smell like a gym bag! I bought him a room deodorizor from Linens 'n Things that you just leave in a corner and it absorbs orders, yet doesn't emit a smell of it's own.

i know what kind of look your describing and thats what i want to go for!, but the majority of homes have white moldings and mine are honey oak so as of now my biggest concern is will this neutral blue/grey wall, black furniture look work with the very bright rich honey oak colors of my new room. And i actually had a mini fridge but it broke haha!
