Wallpaper / Paint for boys room

Hi! Please help me decorate my boys bedroom. They are 5 and 8. I bought the wallpaper for the wall behind the bed. Would you do just the wall or the entire room? Or the entire room but just the top of the chair rail? Or paint the shelves navy? Arg! Thank you for your help!

You won't see much of the wallpaper behind the bed. I'd put it on the wall with the dresser instead.

Thank you! I was thinking the wall behind the bed because it’s directly opposite the door but I see what you mean..

Karen: which technique are you doing? Textured wallpaper over old wallpaper? Or one of the others? Rereading my post (after getting some sleep) it reads more like I am asking about texturing with drywall compound (like imitating venetian plaster, or a tuscan stucco look). PLEASE come back and tell me how it went! I have seen the paper bag technique done on home improvement shows. ItÂs actually simpler. Dipping in poly would be very messy and sticky. You adhere the paper with latex glaze or acrylic matte medium. Then cover with the same clear liquid to seal it in before painting. My hesitation with doing that is if someday down the road you didnÂt want such a texture, you could NEVER get it off. The entire room would have to be skimcoated by someone with the skills to get it really flat and smooth. I donÂt think I want to go that route. At least with drywall compound texturing it could be sanded off smooth easily.

I would remove some of the brick and white wash it. Put the tv above the FP and do moldings on the FP wall. Paint the walls either a warm white or a blue

Thanks for going back and forth on this with me. I definitely want a pendant. (Just one since I don’t think there’s enough room for two.) I think the pendant will help being the ceiling down. if I install a pendant, then would o get rid of the light above the sink? Probably right? In which case maybe I would install a cluster. I also have considered a lighted mirror. Here are a few inspiration photos. I agree that tile might work behind mirror … it needs texture of some sort. I think some of your ideas about wood on the ceiling are too much for me to tackle. Trying to streamline.

I would do it all around the room above the chair rail. Paint below the chair rail one of the greens from the wallpaper. Get brighter bedding. The pastel blue is very babyish.

I fear that that wallpaper will make their sunny bedroom into a cave. Are they especially into boats?

You have A LOT going on in that room, not sure I see a wall that will show off the paper. As hinted the boats are very inclined to attract a theme. Be sure that's what you want. On the dresser wall makes it almost like art. That is curious light fixture for a bedroom. Great solution when that dresser was a changing table. What does the wall with the desk on it look like? Absolutely the more of that DARK paper you put on the walls the more light it will suck out of the room. With so much furniture needed I am not so sure paper is worth the bother. Even a two color scheme....will mostly be covered up and I assume you won't touch the built ins so dividing with the chair rail into two colors can't be carried through.

I never use wallpaper in akids room theie favorite colors and favorite things change constantly . So it would be no for me. I think kids need to be involved with their bedroom decor and since you have 2 they need to be able to find something they both like . I use decals in kids rooms and in this case the boy on top can have something he likes on the wall and the boy on the bottom the same for him . IMO the whole room is not really what I would imagine for kids room So Iwould ask them .

I am not fond of the wallpaper at all. I would only do an accent wall, or just above the chair rail. I might also ask the boys, what they like, since they are not the ones that picked out boats. Its very dark, and kids need bright and happy rooms.

So you have already bought the paper. Probably a restocking fee to return it so I would do as I suggested. Top half wallpaper bottom paint. You do not have to go "themey" with the room.

I do a basement bathroom that could do with some wallpaper so that could be an option…
