Updating help with 1980's home...

We are about to purchase a home built in 1980. It is an open floorplan. GR has a vaulted 20ft ceiling/exposed beam and stone fireplace. The foyer has ugly tile, there is herringbone design wood in the formal dining rm, kitchen, and breakfast nook. There is a huge area rug in the sunken GR with stickdown linoleum tiles surrounding. While looking at the home, I lifted the rug and realized they had only tiled the perimeter of the room. The tile is on top of more stickdown type linoleum. I don't want linoleum so the floor must be redone. Do you think we should try to match the herringbone wood and carry it on into the sunken GR? Will it be too dated? Or should we just redo it all? I would really prefer a rustic wood look throughout the whole open area, but we have other expenses...they painted over wallpaper so the walls must be refinished too. Attaching pics so please give advice!
