That's a beautuful rug. I can see why you'd be frustrated though if the color wasn't what you were expecting.

I happen to have a lot of rusts, golds and greens in my family room. Earlier this year we replaced our kitchen countertops. The granite we picked is called Juparana Arandis amd has sort of a rose color that runs through it.(although the rose is not the predominant color) I worried about it working with the rust in the adjacent family room. I don't know why but it all looks great together. I liken it to a fall bouquet that has burgundies and rusts. Not quite the same perhaps as what you're describing, but it seems to me it could be made to work.

However, if you're really unhappy I guess your only alternative is to return the rug. Good luck with whatever you decide to do.

It's a beautiful rug, but I see what you mean about it not being a true copper. On my monitor, it reads as a deep salmon hue. I don't think it's clashing with your granite, in fact I think it's gorgeous in your space and goes quite nicely with your other decor. However, I know exactly what it's like when something is not as you expected it to be, and if you're not going to be happy with it, then definitely return it -- especially since it obviously was not an inexpensive rug.

Oh, and as for the fringe not being even, I don't think I'd even worry about that if it were mine. The fringe on my rugs is always "every which way" anyway, no matter how hard I try to keep it smooth and even displayed. One cat walking across the rug, and well, so much for neatness.

That would make me sooo mad! I've had similar experiences. I often wonder if the person writing the text for ads/descriptions is looking at a photo instead of the actual item. Only a color-blind idiot would call that "copper".

I think you should hold out for what you want - a copper rug!

I also think you should try to get Home Decorators to send you a prepaid return lable. You should not have to incur the return shipping costs (only the hassle....)

Aaak...I am sorry for you. That is so disappointing! Other than the color, it does look fantastic in your DR. I know you've had trouble getting psyched about decorating...don't let this knock the wind out of your sails.

I have had worse luck with rugs and color than any other thing I order on line.

I'm sure that at one time it actually was rust and this was the end of a run where they just said "whatever" and cranked out this crap.

They have it in different colors and I wouldn't even have minded the red but this isn't even salmon, it's dusty rose.

The fringe has five parts per inch on one side and two parts per on the other. Problem is, I love fringe and really wanted it to look nice.

Parma....you made a great choice! Don't let go of that. You just got a bad deal from the seller. Given what you say about the fringe, it is clearly defective. You should not have to pay for shipping. They should send you a "will call" tag for UPS or whatever.

I think Safavieh is a good and reputable brand. I don't know this from first hand experience, but rather because my friend, who has the best-est of taste, considered their rugs. You might want to contact them too and see what they will do for you.

Oh dear, Parma! Well you know whose house that WOULD look good in? If I didn't have my 2 9x13 Karastans I'd buy it in a heart beat! A round would be beautiful in my sunroom where I also use those colors, but I believe your rug is too big for my space. I really love the rug, Parma! It's a beauty, & I agree w/Amy, you should be able to return this item since the color was truly misrepresented. You must persist!

I bought two other Karastans before I found the two I currently have. The store's return policy was bring it back within 30 days. After about 45 days I decided I'd made a mistake, the rugs I had chosen were too blended & boring! I went to the store & I told them--this was a major investment--thousands of dollars--& just wasn't happy, would they allow me to exchange? They went against policy & I got the two more lively, interesting rugs I have today. I will always, always tell everyone in my area shopping for furniture about the excellent customer service of this store. Hopefully HD knows the power of word of mouth advertising too! Good luck!

Do as amy suggested and let them pay for shipping. If you're exchanging it for the color you should have gotten, you shouldn't pay for return shipping.

This has to be an absolute bummer for you and I'm so sorry. I'd probably be in tears. Having said that, and not having seen the rest of your decor, in your picture the (wrong) rug actually looks very good. It's nothing like the color it should be and the original is gorgeous, but I still like the rug you have also. You mention golds, greens and rusts with a little black and, with the exception of the rust, the other colors are fabulous with dusty pink. If you were to do the drapes and accessories in your DR to go with the rug I can see this as being a very beautiful space.

Unfortunately, my accessories are mostly deep gold French potterie and other bolder warm, earthy colors and I don't see dusty rose window treatments as an option. My love of all things Italian (hence the name Parma) is also seen in many other pieces.

What I'd like to know is if all the outlet places, Overstock included, sell rugs that are seconds? I've shopped around so long that I can pretty much tell the manufacturer of various rugs and then can go to their site for more info. I wouldn't mind a slight run in dye or an inch that is off if it would save me a grand per rug (as I've seen on some) but a totally different color would be unacceptable.

That's what keeping me from buying a rug - and I want one really bad - but I am afraid of the colors not matching!

Last year for our new home we ordered a runner from Home Decorators. It was delivered with the plastic torn, and mildewed underneath. Stunk to high heaven. It had been mildewed long before they shipped it to be that bad.

Home Decorators was very easy to work with on the return and replacement. We were not charged shipping. They immediately shipped out a replacement that was fine and worked in our room. Hope you have a good outcome, as well.

Aside from the colour issue----and it is clearly NOTHING like the catalog/photograph representation----the fringe is inferior. I would send it back ASAP. You don't need a return authorization to return things to Home Decorator's Catalog, I don't think.

They're a good source for some items, but they have middle-to-low-end quality and I would be very wary of purchasing a dining room rug from HCD.

kswl, I normally would have been wary of buying such an important rug from them, but I knew it was the same Safavieh that I had seen on the better rug sites. It was even called copper/green, the same as the others.

Same rug, less money(still quite a bit though)but wrong color and bad fringe, which made me wonder if Safavieh sends them their seconds...or in this case, thirds?

Hopefully, I will hear from Homedec. tomorrow as I am hoping not to incur return shipping charges.

Safavieh never replied. Today I recieved an email from Horchow singing their praises and I had been thinking about buying their rugs for the rest of our home. Not too sure anymore.

Parma: That is a beautiful rug, but I just don't see it working with your color scheme that you have planned. It is the dominant primary color that is off--not an accent color and rose just does not work with a more traditional, old world color scheme. I agree the fringe looks inferior as well which really cheapens the whole look of the rug. Good luck sending it back. Rug shopping has got to be one of the most frustrating things! :) I do believe when it is all said and done, you'll find your rug, but this is not it.

I hope you hear from them....I am sure they will pay for you to ship that back - it is so wrong from the advertised picture. Otherwise, if the color was right it would be a great rug for that beautiful table you have there.

Well, Homedec. said they'd get back to me in two business days after I sent them pics and I haven't heard a thing so guess I'll have to bug them tomorrow. I'm out of town, so that's even more of a hassle.

Emailed Homedecorators Tuesday and still haven't gotten a reply. I'll call them tomorrow.

I've had so many hassles here with one of his insurance companies and problems he's having at the nursing home that I really want this rug saga to be over with.

Just want to be home.
